5-0 out of 5 stars Lucado is Great!!!
I thought this book was great - it was really colorful. The overall feel reminded me of the book "Now I Know the Ten Commandments". I recommend it to anyone.
5-0 out of 5 stars Max Lucado book
This book is for all ages.It is a great book to read to your grandchildren, but even if you don't have children, it has such a great message for everyone.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent message
I love love love this story. It's great for all ages.We first received this story in its paperback (scholastic)version.I tend to like the illustrations better in that version than in this smaller, hardcover book.Nevertheless, an excellent read with your kids. This would be extremely beneficial for pre-teen (middle school age) kids. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Book!
I have thoroughly enjoyed watching how my little one's faces light up when it is time to read this wonderful book.It is a story that fills their little hearts with hope and encouragement, and not to mention the fact that it is packed with sound principles from God's Word. This is a very beneficial tool if you are trying to expose your young one's minds to The Pilgrim's Progress until they themselves are able to read either the abridged or unabridged Old English Classic. It is extremely well illustrated and captures the complete attention of my very active little one's minds. They don't budge one bit! This is truly a must have for every Christian family's library.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love this picture/story book
What a blessing to be able to show your kids the life of a believer. This story is so true of a believers walk in this world and how Christian struggles through it.Great to read with the entire family. Also would be a great gift.My teens and younger onelove it too.

2-0 out of 5 stars Dangerous Journey - Entertaining, But Flawed
I am amazed that none of the other reviews caught at least one major flaw and perhaps there will be more.Simple, Sloth and Presumption are out of correct order in that The Dangerous Journey has them before the Interpreters House and before the burden is off Christian's back.John Bunyan's classic has these three characters placed after the Cross. It is important to stay true to the text because it is a Classic. This makes me wonder if the reviewers before me, have ever read the original.Such is the times in which we live.PS:The Video makes the same error. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Good idea, but....
This was an innovative and novel way to retell a familiar story, however Mary came off more ditzy than maternal. She "giggled" and "pinched Joseph's nose" when springing the news on him that she's pregnant (quipping that she is "fat" because of reason that "wiggles deep inside" her) and she is just dumbfounded when Joseph is stunned and angry over her condition. Then when her parents try to comfort her, she tells them both "leave me alone," behaving like a pouty teen rather than the woman chosen to be the mother of mankind's savior.5-0 out of 5 stars An unusual but moving way to tell the Christmas story.
I've been collecting children's Christmas books for years, but this is one of the most beautiful and original ones I have ever seen. Religious Christmas books don't have a lot of variety in the story, of course. They tell about the birth of Jesus and no matter how beautiful the story is, everyone tells it pretty much the same way. The only thing that usually distinguishes one nativity book from another is the quality of the illustrations.5-0 out of 5 stars "Mary Christmas"!!
This book is quite wonderful. My kids loved it! The illustrations are very nice and the story of the first Christmas is well told.Entertaining for both parents and kids. The glimpse into the life of Jesus as a small boy is very well done, especially considering that we know nothing of his childhood from the Scriptures, except for his birth and the story of when he was thought lost but was in the temple. The story brings Mary and Jesus and even Josheph alive for the reader. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Little Book
I thought this book was great - it was really colorful. The overall feel reminded me of the book "Now I Know the Ten Commandments". I recommend it to anyone.
5-0 out of 5 stars beautiful little story!
I bought this for my 8 year old sister on her birthday and it has become one of her favorites! Even I enjoyed it! And I'm sixteen! :) It is such a beautiful story with SO much meaning. If you want to show your daughters (or sisters) the power of purity and introduce the concept of waiting for your future husband, instead of dating around BUY THIS BOOK!!!! My little sister had a crush on a guy, but after reading the book said that she wasn't going to try and sit by him anymore ;) I only wish I had read this book at her age and missed a whole lot of little, but put together, big mistakes. I highly HIGHLY recommend this book!

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good
I really liked this book. The stories were entertaining, and I love the journal space they give you at the end of each story so you can write a prayer to God or whatever!Devotionals are a good way to spend time with the Lord 'cause they are easy to understand and when there are stories you remember them and what they have to do about life.If you get Brio and have enjoyed her written devotionals, you'll like this book.Even if you haven't, I recommend you give it a try! ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Not For This Family
I knew it was bad when, upon reading this book aloud to my family one Christmas, I looked around to find every last one of them asleep -- and snoring! We'd tried valiantly to give this book a serious go, as it came to us warmly recommended with the instructions to read it aloud each night before Christmas. Not only could we not follow the story, certain elements were downright irritating (dialogue, names) and it presented a mish mash of complicated little plots while at the same time seeming to go nowhere. On about night 5 of this, that's when I found everyone asleep, from my grade school daughter all the way up to my husband. That was certainly the best thing about this book -- the funny memories it gave us from that night. But, alas, we had to abandon ship and read something else much more interesting, entertaining and Christmassy.Sorry!

3-0 out of 5 stars Not one of Gaarder's best works
Jostein Gaarder ranks right up there on my list of favorite authors, but I did not feel that this was his best effort. It is very much in the same vein of "The Solitaire Mystery" (my all-time favorite book) and "Sophie's World" (the book that inspired me to get a philosophy minor in college), but covers the same principles talked about in "Solitaire Mystery".Read that one to get your socks blown off, read "The Christmas Mystery" around December to get in the spirit of the holidays!

5-0 out of 5 stars Christmas Tradition
Every year, the 1st of December we find The Christmas Mystery by Jostein Gaarder in our box of Christmas books, and start to read the first chapter. The book has 24 chapters, so we keep on reading, one chapter every day, untill Christmas Eve. And when we read we follow the little girl Elisabet from Norway around 1940, down through Europe and down through history, untill she, in the last chapter meets Joseph, Maria and the little newborn king. At the same time we meet the boy Joakim who finds a very special advent calendar in an old bookshop, the advent calendar has doors to open, and inside the doors Joakim finds small sheets of paper telling the fantastic story about Elisabet and her travel.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Mr. X
With The Chronicles of Narnia C.S. Lewis creates a magical winter wonderland that involves adventure and suspense. It is a story about four children that are sent to live with a professor who resides in a huge mansion. They discover a world that is always winter and never Christmas. The residents are tormented by a witch that can turn people into stone. Soon a lion named Aslan arrives and brings spring with him and the power to bring stoned people back to life. Ultimately, Aslan kills the witch and the four children become kings and queens of Narnia. It is a quick, effortless read that is entertaining. Once you start you will not want to put the book down. It is an easy recommendation for anyone. I highly recommend giving the book a chance and picking up a copy of it, especially for kids.
4-0 out of 5 stars Kid Friendly
The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis was a great children's book. The adventures of Lucy, Edmond, Susan and Peter started when they had to move to their grandfather's house due to a war going in London. As they were playing a game of hide and seek they stumbled upon the magical world of Narnia. There they joined forces with the great leader Aslan and together overthrew the evil white witch. I have read this book as a younger kid and just now and there was a big difference in the way I read it. As a kid it was a lot more magical and I couldn't put it down I just had to read it. Now it might be the fact that this is the second time I have read this but it wasn't as good this time around. I had more wonder in my eyes I guess as a kid. I would recommend this book to everyone but I do truly believe kids will enjoy this book more than adults.

5-0 out of 5 stars A novel perfect for all ages.
The popular children's book The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis, teaches biblical messages through a dramatic and intriguing plot. It all begins in WWII when a mother sends her four children off to the country to live with a professor for safety. The children were very curious and often spent hours playing hide and go seek, which lead to them discovering many new rooms and parts of the mansion. One day the youngest girl, Lucy, hid in a coat wardrobe. She walked to the very back of the closet where she revealed a new land. It was snowing and right away she discovered an odd creature. Lucy eventually went back through the wardrobe and tried to explain her discoveries to her brothers and sisters but none of them believed her. Finally Lucy was given the opportunity to prove her tale and her siblings peter, Edmund and Susan followed. Once they all entered the land they were told by a creature named Tumnus that the queen would want to kill them if she ever found them. This is because they were human and threatened her power. The rest of the novel is a biblical parallel to basics tenants of Christianity. The good and evil were always at war and at one point the Lion was slain. He rose from the dead and was able to overthrow evil. This is directly related to what the bible teaches. I believe this a great story. At a young age it has a fascinating plot with magical creatures and a powerful ending. At a more mature age is has vast symbolism that still allows for an easy read, without lacking in complexity. I think the characters in the new land are remotely bizarre but I enjoyed that if left me wondering about their personality because it lacks the usual stereotypes that are often placed on everyday characters. I couldn't tell whether the character was sympathetic or an antagonistic until I kept reading. Overall I highly suggest reading this book. When the final page is read it will leave you thinking. It's a quick read with deep meaning. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Gift of One's Talents
I remember this tale from my childhood when it was read to me by a nun.Tomie De Paola has beautifully illustrated this story and retold it by placing the events in medieval Italy.Since this is one of my favorites, I have purchased several copies for my grandchildren, and a gift to other grandparents who like reading to the little ones.Be prepared to feel the emotion of this story, it gets me all the time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Resource for teaching kids!
This Bible is such a great resource! It's NKJ so it's a literal translation and there are footnotes for all the words kids might not understand. There are lessons throughout it that each present the gospel message in a way that both ties into the lesson and is clear for even very young children. I can't say enough good things about this Bible, even if you don't teach children, it is still an excellent resource. Anyone who has kids in their home or anyone who knows a kid should have this in their library.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Helpful
This book helped me so much.It is a comfort and a challenge. It explains all the things you go through with a divorce, even things you would not think of.It goes into things we hide from our own selves or just don't realize. One thing that is very touching and personal about this book is that at the begining of every chapter there is a love letter to you from God (based on scripture, of course) and at the end of every chapter is a comparison of what our fear tells us and what our faith tells us.This book truly can change your life if you are in the valley after a divorce (which most of us are). And the chapters are not long, so you can take it in little bits at a time, one issue at a time. This book is good even if you have been divorced for a long time.It shows you how to deal - in a Godly way and expresses God's love and forgiveness.I would recommend this book to anyone who is going through a divorce or has ever been through one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Help for the Hurting and more!
Rose Sweet offers a smorsgasbord of insight to the issues that the recently divorced face. The topics of grief, rejection, anger, bitterness, depression, guilt, fear, and loneliness are explored through real-life examples and are also spiritually examined. Through a very engaging style of writing, Rose shares her journey and inspires you to journey with her to wholeness. I have already purchased several for gifts for friends who need this educational, inspirational, and motivational book. Kudos to Rose for being transparent and serving as a mentor for those who want to follow her footsteps toward healing the heartbreak of divorce!

5-0 out of 5 stars Overcoming The "Heartbreak" My Review On Rose's Book
I have just finished reading "Healing the Heartbreak Of Divorce" by Rose Sweet. Being a divorcee myself, for 15 years now, I laughed, I cried, I sighed, and I was brought to awe by this wonderful, genius in writing of a book. Finally a book on divorce that is a must read instead of these ridiculous readings, "Divorce for Dumbells." I was brought back to a place in time that brought back all the memories of devastation, and heartache only to learn by reading this book, HOW FAR I HAVE COME! That is the gift that Rose Sweet gave to me in writing. Another gift given to me by reading this book, was a gift of spiritualism. Which I had lost and have now found. Chapter 14, "Understanding Why?' struck a nerve in me like no other nerve was ever stuck before in my life. Dealing with my own issues lately, before reading this book with my own "Why's" with God? This chapter hit me over the head! The giraffe story and the deserted island story, made it all so clear to me now, all of MY OWN "Why's" have now come to surface with peace of mind. 3-0 out of 5 stars Autobiography of a Canadian-Anglo-Indian

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
You will feel the urge to keep turning the pages of this book, not just because of the incredible events of his life, but because of the humility and candor of Ravi as he shares his life story. The power of the gospel is woven through the fabric of his life and every life he touches.I began following Ravi's ministry and writings when I was 18 and have never lost interest. He has a tremendous passion to reach every mind with the gospel. Please read this book - you will be very glad you did.

5-0 out of 5 stars You Will Probably Enjoy This as Much as You Enjoy His Radio Shows. Ravi Listeners will Enjoy This Autobiography!
I really enjoy hearing Ravi Zacharias on his weekly radio show. He is probably the most intellectual of any of the radio preachers that I hear broadcast on Christian radio in my area. Ravi is from India, but he converted to Christianity as a teenager in India, and his missionary career consists of intellectually applying logic to support Biblical concepts, to audiences across the globe. That's my explanation of what he does, at least. So when I heard he had an autobiography out, I was curious enough to check it out.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent resource
I read this book some years ago. I had been a Christian 6 years at that time, but its contents were earth-shattering. It woke me up to some of the basic truths of the application of Jesus Christ and His word in my life. It opened my eyes to lies I had believed that had literally tormented me for some years. It helped lay a very strong foundation of self-worth and of freedom, and as I now serve God in full time ministry I still draw on the truths that were so powerfully imprinted on my soul through reading the book. Like Billy Graham, I believe every Christian should read this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Search for Significance
This book identifies some deep insight into your personal self worth.I certainly would recommend it for anyone that is on their journey as a Christ seeker.

5-0 out of 5 stars Listen to Billy Graham...
This book is life changing.Well, it is more of an in-depth Bible study. It is excellent and has given me and my husband the proper foundation for our significance. That foundation is in God and not in what we can do for each other.I believe that it saved our marriage. My husband and I are helping our friends through this study.I am now doing it for the fifth time and my husband is doing it for his third time. That is how much it has affected our lives.Anyone who believes in God but finds that the relationship is not what it should be should read this book and do the workbook that is in the back. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Courtesy of Teens Read Too
Washington State native and young adult literature veteran Chris Crutcher is no stranger to censorship. Many of his critically acclaimed novels have been persecuted for their content anduse of "inappropriate language," as well as the thematically taboo nature of the stories themselves. THE SLEDDING HILL, Crutcher's latest novel, deals with the issue of censorship, and the struggle students, as well as pro-literature advocates, must undergo to ensure the right to read contemporary works.
1-0 out of 5 stars A boring dud
What started out as what I thought was a good idea quickly turned into what read like a spoiled brat spewing venom because of some imagined slight.B O R I N G !!!

2-0 out of 5 stars strong topics but weakly written
Chris Crutcher's book, The Sledding Hill, focuses on points such as life after death, censorship, and religion. The main character Eddie goes through some hard knocks when his best friend Billy and his father die within three months of each other.

Editorial Review

It's almost Christmas and it hasn't snowed yet. As the farmer naps onhis small farm, he dreams of being covered in a gentle blanket of new snow. Then, one by one, he dreams of each of his five animals (aptly named One, Two,Three, Four, and Five) being covered as well. When he awakens, he discovers thatreal snow--not dream snow--has fallen. And "Oh my! Oh my! I almost forgot," thefarmer shouts, and, bundling up, hurries out to his tree (named Tree) with a boxand a sack, looking remarkably familiar in his white beard and red suit. Afterdecorating Tree, the farmer shouts "Merry Christmas to all!" and pushes a buttonfor a surprise Yuletide jingle.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for reading readiness...
This book lets you teach 49 vowel-spellings with 282 vocabulary words.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tested and true
My preschool students loved everything about this book. There was the mystery of the old farmer who looked like Santa Claus. Was he just a farmer or was he Santa? The animals with their number names caused a great deal of discussion among the children. Why didn't they have real names? The plastic overlays of falling snow and the song and light show at the end were over the top and caused a sensation.Dream Snow is a showcase of Eric Carle's genius. The story is very simple but readily engages children's minds and the visual presentation is tantalizing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Attention getter
As a mother and a preschool teacher, I can say that I really enjoyed this book. The simplicity of it keeps the attention of the children. They love to repeat the lines with me as I am reading. They also like taking turns pressing the button to hear the music. This is truly another master piece by Carle. ...
