5-0 out of 5 stars Anything by this author is good.
My daughter (2) is a little young for this book yet, but I read it and think it is wonderful for children. If you have children about 6 or older who are having a difficult time or are angry about something, this book would be great. Even if your children are happy though, there are wonderful lessons here for everyone and that can help the world to become a more peaceful place.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very different
While many children's books deal with fiction this book speaks of the reality of here and now.It is thought provoking on a child's level teaching spirituality and awareness. My six year old seems to enjoy listening to the stories. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice intermediate kid's bible
If you want more than a baby bible but aren't quite ready for a full text version, this is a great choice.Seems to cover most of the major stories of the bible so it's more than just a few sundry bible stories. The illustrations are fun--lots of action and color without being too cartoony. My 4 year old son is sitting, looking at his new copy now and I imagine that even my 8 year old daughter will enjoy it.

4-0 out of 5 stars My Son Loves This Bible
My son is 4-years old and he can not get enough of these Bible stories night after night. He also has the Leap Pad version of one of the stories but he does not like that nearly as much. I feel that the stories are complete enough for his age but omit potentially disturbing details that simply are not needed until later. My husband and I also enjoy getting a little Bible refresher from a simpler point-of-view.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great for Small Kids
In Brazil I bought a copy of the Portuguese language edition of this book to read to my daughter, so when we moved to the United States it was only natural to seek it out in English.Since she's now seven I don't read out of this Bible to her any more, but from age 3-6 it was great, and I'll read it to my little boy once he's old enough to sit still. We read it cover to cover many times, and I'm convinced that this has helped to to establish a deep familiarity with the fundamental Biblical narrative.Buy it and read it to your kids or grandkids. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Best Version of the Brilliant Classic Out There!
I'm in my late 30's and I've read this in full for the first time recently and I have to say that this is one of the best books ever written.I can see why this is listed among the top 100 novels since the 1920s by Time Magazine.Unlike many books for children, Lewis never dumbs down or talks down to his intended audience which means even the adult can fully appreciate the genius of his great story-telling and allegory.
5-0 out of 5 stars Sardonic, Interesting and Profound Reading
This novel is written rather sardonically but is captivating enough to keep the reader enthralled. It is actually very enchanting. The reader may also want to do some technical research on many of the absurdities it describes and uses. Significantly the reader should never fail to remember that this is a work of fiction but skillfully written. Its allegorical storyline is profound just the same ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent explanation of essential Christian doctrines
This is an excellent version of Luther's Small Catechism with Explanation, with very good supplemental materials added. This book would be a great resource for Protestants of all denominations, and is required reading for all Lutherans.Essential aspects of Christian doctrine are concisely reviewed with the scriptural basis provided for these beliefs. This book is highly recommended to everyone seeking insights into the foundations of Christian doctrine.

5-0 out of 5 stars Essential reading for Protestants and Lutherans and kids
This book, which describes the basic teaching for what was the only Protestant denomination at the outset of the Reformation, should be required reading for Protestants.Provides a solid foundation for what it means to be a Christian, Protestant, and a Lutheran.Provides the essential teaching on what is expected.Great for kids.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good Grounding
As a catholic, I found this book a refresher on religion and many of the questions we ask of our faith.Even a non-catholic would find this enlightening...if you have the strength to ask the questions.

5-0 out of 5 stars No Sugar-Coating
This is an excellent Bible particulary for folks of the Reformed/Presbyterian Tradition. The stories are told using real images and language -- it's not sugar-coated nor is the theology compromised by using a slightly elementary vocabulary. The illustrations are vivid and hold attention -- all in all, it's an excellent family Bible!

5-0 out of 5 stars Creative, Inclusive, Thoughtful and Playful
This is the only bible I am willing to read to my daughters, ages 4 and 6.I am very hard to please ... open in my spirituality, and desiring of inclusive material that is creative yet true to the sacred stories of the Christian tradition. This bible keeps my girls' interest and sparks their natural questions. It invites an open-ended sense of wonder, and avoids cliches or pat language. And I enjoy it.There are many stories of women in the bible, and all the stories are thoughtful, inclusive and understandable. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Truth about Sex
My husband and I spent a year preparing for the coming "talk" with our oldest when I came across this series. There is 4 books in all.We have used books 1-3 and have been extremely pleased with how the content and each topic was handled. At first I was worried that some levels where a little more than I was ready for my kids to know but we went ahead and covered each topic in the book.My kids LOVED them and appreciated having all their questions answered so throughoughly and lovingly. The authors do an outstanding job communicating the love God has for them and what His intenstions are for sexuality. I highly recommend these books for children of all ages.

5-0 out of 5 stars A good place to start
As a Christian Parent raised in a family that never discussed sex, I found this book (and the series) to be a great starting point. It hits all the right topics in a way that communicates a Christian view without using guilt or sounding preachy.Parents should read it themselves, then pass it on to their child. Don't wait for your child to hit puberty before you start talking about this important subject.

4-0 out of 5 stars Magic Magician
The Magicians Nephew was all about magic. Theirs these rings that Digory's (the main characater)uncle made. They transport you to other worlds. Then Digory and his friend Polly go to an evil enchanted world called charn. Were they find the witch. She follows them back to London and trys to take over London. They fight and all end up in Narnia by touching the rings.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Magician's Nephew
I loved the book The Magician's Nephew. I loved the book because it was hard to put down. In class I would never want to stop reading. The book was sort of like a mystery. You would suspect one thing and the total opposite would happen. The last 2-3 chapters are the best. If you are looking for an easy read then you will love this book. The book is hard to follow in parts and you really need to think about what is happening.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Christmas Intro
This adorable book is a very good introduction to the reason we celebrate Christmas. The short, rhyming phrases on each page and beautiful illustrations are sure to capture your little one's interest. I would give it 5 stars except that for a board book it is a little flimsy. My one year old will sit and listen to it several times in a row, and loves to point at the shiny star and different animals in the pictures. If you are looking for a Christmas story for a little one, this is a good choice!
5-0 out of 5 stars Great choice for young children
This simple board book has nice illustrations and easy to understand text.It begins:"I am the star that shines in the east, I light the stable for man and beast."Subsequent pages introduce the donkey, the ram, the ox, the shepherds, the wise men, Mary, and baby Jesus.I recommend this book for children two and under. It makes a great first Christmas present.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Magician's Nephew
Eduardo Zaranski
5-0 out of 5 stars A Bold Beginning
While "The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe" was published first, it's "The Magician's Nephew" that truly starts off the Chronicles of Narnia. In this book, you'll learn about how Jadis first came to Narnia and what the Professor had to do with it.You'll learn about the lamppost, about why the wardrobe acts as a portal between worlds, and you'll get to watch the founding of C.S. Lewis's magical land. It's fun, engaging, and a great start to the series.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Fast Read
I rarely find a book that I don't want to put down. The Magician's Nephew was such a book. The story moves along quickly, and is written in an easy to read style that doesn't bog down your mind with details, but rather opens your mind and allows it to fill in the details.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for daily bedtime reading
This is the second copy of this Bible that I've purchased; the first fell apart from enthusiastic use. My daughter loves me to read a Bible story to her each night, and the illustrations in thisBible pull her into the story (though not every story is illustrated; there are usually about 2 stories/readings per page, and only one gets the full page illustration). The writing is fairly straightforward, though I have had to modify some vocabulary on the fly (she's only 4). The fact that there is a story for every day of the year inspired her to want to read "the whole Bible" in one year, which just warmed my heart. We're well on our way to completing this Bible by the end of 2006. When we get there...we'll start over again!
5-0 out of 5 stars Great for every night of the week
I thought this book was great - it was really colorful. The overall feel reminded me of the book "Now I Know the Ten Commandments". I recommend it to anyone. It's great for every night of the week.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pleasantly surprised with this Bible!!
I have owned many children's story Bibles over the years, and this is by far the best one! The illustrations are very nicely done, with "true to the times" detail. The stories are retold in a such a way that the children can understand them, without losing the integrity of the original language. I also like the fact that there is a continuity to the stories, and many stories and parables are included that are missing from most children's bibles. Finally, you can't beat the price- very reasonable, and worth every penny! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Have...
I have a table top sized tree and this book beside of my Nativity.I use it every Chirstmas with my kids to help tell them the story of Christmas. Each day has a small book that tells a small part of the Christmas story...now they (10, 8, 6, and 5) gather each day in December to read the stories to each other.I love it so much, I bought one for each of my kids (yes now because you never know when they will be out of print) and for all of my siblings and in-laws.

5-0 out of 5 stars It isn't Christmas without it.
I found this book in 1994 and it has been a favorite of our boys, now 14 and 16.We misplaced it one year and didn't get to read it and hang the ornaments. We still had Christmas, but one of our favorite family traditions was missing.I was informed that I'd better find it for the next Christmas-- and I did-- and it was Christmas once again. In fact, we love this calendar/book so much that I'm buying a new one to send to my son who is away at boarding school, along with a small tree on which to hang the ornaments.Just a little piece of home to have in his dorm room. 5-0 out of 5 stars An beautiul family tradition...
We purchased this calendar/book set for our son when he was about 3 years old.He is just shy of 13 now and it is still a tradition to read this book before bed each night beginning on December 1st.When he was little and couldn't read, my husband and I took turns nightly reading to him.He has a very small tree in his room on his dresser where he would hang the book we read every night. Now that he is older, we still take turns reading every night (him included, of course). This calendar is a simple, yet meaningful way for the family to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ as well as count down the days until Christmas. My son will hand it down to his children one day and I will be purchasing one for my goddaughter who is just turning one.I highly recommend this! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars best book for teaching children
This book is an excellent collection of wisdom even for non-buddhists.My children love the tales and the artwork; I love the meanings.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wisdom for all ages
I've been reading this book to my small son, who seems to like the pictures now more than anything.I know all of the stories now and find myself reading them as life events take place. It's amazing how stories can make a point more than just description. This book does just that.

5-0 out of 5 stars Water in the Jar
I bought this book thinking that it was one of those gifts that my son probably wouldn't like but that because it was a children's book I could get away with buying it indirectly for myself.Sort of a back-door self gift, at a time when I couldn't afford to buy myself something.Well, I was right about my liking it, but wrong about my son--he liked it too, and still does. We have read and re-read many of our favorite stories (I tend to get in reading grooves sometimes, like the period during which I couldn't read anything but stories from "Interpreter of Maladies").Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for encouragement!
I purchased this book for a toddler and he just loves it!It talks about how a tiny seed who really doesn't think he's going to amount to much, grows into this beautiful plant. He's been told that he will flower but doesn't for awhile - he's just green. Then, when the moon comes out, he blooms with such a magnificent scent that it wakes the lady that planted him.Such a wonderful book to read to anyone, not just little folks.Highly recommend!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Little Seed That Couldn't
Jan Karon has written an inspirational tale "of Encouragement for all Ages". Unlike the little engine that could, the reader is introduced to a seed that was given to a "Nice Lady" who intends to plant it next Spring and watch it grow into a tall blossoming vine. The seed finds all of this preposterous.
5-0 out of 5 stars An Inspiration of Hope
What a well written book by Jan Karon, not just for children, but for all ages. The seed had no hope for itself, but the nice woman knew it would grow to be something beautiful. I plan to give this book as Christmas presents this year. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Truths of God
I thought this book was great - it was really colorful. The overall feel reminded me of the book "Now I Know the Ten Commandments". I recommend it to anyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful book
What a wonderful book. The stories are just long enough to hold the attention of a child, but not so long that they get bored. We look forward to using it in our family devotion time every night.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect Choice for Parents with Small Children!
I have a 6 year old son. My wife and I desired to teach him "Big Truths" but in a way that was interesting and fun. I began searching for books that would help us to do this. Finally, I found this book, "Big Truths for Little Kids". Perusing it at the store, I felt like it would fit the bill. But once I got it home and began reading it to my son, I knew it was the right choice! He loves hearing the stories in this book. The book uses short stories to teach kids biblical truths in a practical and insightful way for children. All of the stories have the same characters - Caleb, Cassie, Angus, Daniel, etc. After the first few stories, your child will know all the characters and relate to them. This makes the stories even better! My son looks forward to reading these stories with great anticipation. He thinks it's just fun, but all the while he is learning great spiritual truths that will help him grow into a man of honor and integrity. I cannot thank the authors enough for the wonderful service they have done by writing this book for children. Thank you!!! ... Read more
