3-0 out of 5 stars "Cool Mom's" review
I am reading through Woman After God's Own Heart, which I so wanted to share with my son's girlfriend, very new and unsure of her faith, with absolutely no spiritual support from her parents. But "Woman" is very mature and deals with women more my age. I saw "Young Woman" here when I ordered another copy of "Woman" for a close friend. I'm excited about the book... I know some of these teens reviews are mixed, and one actually very harsh. I will say this to the young ladies out there... it IS possible to live purely and holy before God as a teen. I did it with peer pressure and all... I saved myself for marriage and have had a wonderful life. It was not and still is not always easy - even adults have peer pressure. My husband and I talk to our kids about EVERYTHING and don't "flowerize" anything. It is hard out there - but God requires integrity from us. Remember, Elizabeth George was a teen at one time and she raised teen daughters... the way she speaks is out of a heart of love for you and for the Kingdom of God. Philippians 4:8 says Whatever things are pure, true, just, lovely and of good report with VIRTUE and PRAISE - think on THOSE things. When I read the book with my daughter I'll come back to give my final opinion. Blessings! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply Beautiful
This is one of those books you will remember reading to your kids long after they are gone. Introducing the concepts of holistic duality in a manner befitting children, this book gives kids an excellent sence of self-connection to the world around them. A must for your childs library.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect at home study for children
I have purchased this book as a family devotional for the evenings. I have three little ones ages 7, 5, and 3, whom look forward to hearing the stories each night. It is an older book, however like many things, and oldie but goodie. Each chapter contains a story, scripture, memory verse and questions. I would highly recommend it, especially for those whom have kids ranging in age, as this book has something for everyone!

5-0 out of 5 stars An exceptional book for teaching foundational Biblical truths to young ones
This wonderful book overviews the entire scope of Biblical teachings, from a topical rather than an historical perspective. It is well-organized and explains Bible truths using illustrations and language that are very clear yet accurate for young children. Also, it explains Biblical doctrines in a way that is very oriented toward life rather than just an intellectual exercise.

I thought this book was great - it was really colorful. The overall feel reminded me of the book "Now I Know the Ten Commandments". I recommend it to anyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Inspires young boys
I bought this for my 4 and 6 year old boys as a short devotion time in the morning. The boys loved it and actually asked to keep the book up in their rooms now that we have finished it.My 4 year old will say, "mom, I am God's litte boy because I am ...".It has sweet illustrations and takes just a minute to read in the morning.I bought another copy of the book recently to give it to my 4 year old's close friend.
5-0 out of 5 stars Quite a good book!
This book is quite fun with all of it's vivid pictures. It makes it's points, which are great ones!, but it doesn't overwhelm the listener/reader! Which I find is very important when reading to boys of different ages. It also starts a lot of great conversations! :D ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Godparents, take note
This is a great book for Godparents to give Godchildren. It is always a challenge to find something meaningful to remind the Godchild of the special event in which they participated. I'm giving this book to my Godchild years later to reinforce her connection with God.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best kids' church history book available
Very informative and wonderfully written stories of the heroes of the Christian faith.Riveting and inspiring!I've used this with my own children, in teaching Sunday School and in my 4th grade class. It's always the preferred book, even when reading from several other sources.Every Christian should read this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very interesting and well written
We have used this book in our home school studies of the Middle Ages, and have loved it.The author makes the history come alive with his wonderful writing style and interesting information. We have used it alongside other books that sometimes discuss the same people in history, and this one is by far the most interesting narrative.I love it, as do my 5th and 2nd grader. We use it as a read aloud, but an older student could easily tackle it as a reader.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good idea, but....
This was an innovative and novel way to retell a familiar story, however Mary came off more ditzy than maternal. She "giggled" and "pinched Joseph's nose" when springing the news on him that she's pregnant (quipping that she is "fat" because of reason that "wiggles deep inside" her) and she is just dumbfounded when Joseph is stunned and angry over her condition. Then when her parents try to comfort her, she tells them both "leave me alone," behaving like a pouty teen rather than the woman chosen to be the mother of mankind's savior.5-0 out of 5 stars An unusual but moving way to tell the Christmas story.
I've been collecting children's Christmas books for years, but this is one of the most beautiful and original ones I have ever seen. Religious Christmas books don't have a lot of variety in the story, of course. They tell about the birth of Jesus and no matter how beautiful the story is, everyone tells it pretty much the same way. The only thing that usually distinguishes one nativity book from another is the quality of the illustrations.5-0 out of 5 stars "Mary Christmas"!!
This book is quite wonderful. My kids loved it! The illustrations are very nice and the story of the first Christmas is well told.Entertaining for both parents and kids. The glimpse into the life of Jesus as a small boy is very well done, especially considering that we know nothing of his childhood from the Scriptures, except for his birth and the story of when he was thought lost but was in the temple. The story brings Mary and Jesus and even Josheph alive for the reader. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Helpful
This book helped me so much.It is a comfort and a challenge. It explains all the things you go through with a divorce, even things you would not think of.It goes into things we hide from our own selves or just don't realize. One thing that is very touching and personal about this book is that at the begining of every chapter there is a love letter to you from God (based on scripture, of course) and at the end of every chapter is a comparison of what our fear tells us and what our faith tells us.This book truly can change your life if you are in the valley after a divorce (which most of us are). And the chapters are not long, so you can take it in little bits at a time, one issue at a time. This book is good even if you have been divorced for a long time.It shows you how to deal - in a Godly way and expresses God's love and forgiveness.I would recommend this book to anyone who is going through a divorce or has ever been through one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Help for the Hurting and more!
Rose Sweet offers a smorsgasbord of insight to the issues that the recently divorced face. The topics of grief, rejection, anger, bitterness, depression, guilt, fear, and loneliness are explored through real-life examples and are also spiritually examined. Through a very engaging style of writing, Rose shares her journey and inspires you to journey with her to wholeness. I have already purchased several for gifts for friends who need this educational, inspirational, and motivational book. Kudos to Rose for being transparent and serving as a mentor for those who want to follow her footsteps toward healing the heartbreak of divorce!

5-0 out of 5 stars Overcoming The "Heartbreak" My Review On Rose's Book
I have just finished reading "Healing the Heartbreak Of Divorce" by Rose Sweet. Being a divorcee myself, for 15 years now, I laughed, I cried, I sighed, and I was brought to awe by this wonderful, genius in writing of a book. Finally a book on divorce that is a must read instead of these ridiculous readings, "Divorce for Dumbells." I was brought back to a place in time that brought back all the memories of devastation, and heartache only to learn by reading this book, HOW FAR I HAVE COME! That is the gift that Rose Sweet gave to me in writing. Another gift given to me by reading this book, was a gift of spiritualism. Which I had lost and have now found. Chapter 14, "Understanding Why?' struck a nerve in me like no other nerve was ever stuck before in my life. Dealing with my own issues lately, before reading this book with my own "Why's" with God? This chapter hit me over the head! The giraffe story and the deserted island story, made it all so clear to me now, all of MY OWN "Why's" have now come to surface with peace of mind. I can now tell you all how soundly I slept after turning the last page of this incredible, INCREDIBLE, piece of work. Bravo to you Rose! Bravo to Us! 5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for encouragement!
I purchased this book for a toddler and he just loves it!It talks about how a tiny seed who really doesn't think he's going to amount to much, grows into this beautiful plant. He's been told that he will flower but doesn't for awhile - he's just green. Then, when the moon comes out, he blooms with such a magnificent scent that it wakes the lady that planted him.Such a wonderful book to read to anyone, not just little folks.Highly recommend!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Little Seed That Couldn't
Jan Karon has written an inspirational tale "of Encouragement for all Ages". Unlike the little engine that could, the reader is introduced to a seed that was given to a "Nice Lady" who intends to plant it next Spring and watch it grow into a tall blossoming vine. The seed finds all of this preposterous.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for short consistent intentional instruction
This book has fit well into our training system. We read it right after dinner and it takes about 3 minutes to read and we talk about it for 3-5 minutes. The level is a little bit above my 3 and 4 year old's head so I simplify the language a little as I read. I won't have to do that very long though. The kids like the illustrations. We have been very happy with it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great way to end the day.
My daughter (who turns 5 in 3 months) enjoys hearing the stories every evening before bed.I have found it is a great way to teach her about her religion and God.Children are innately curious and love to learn. The stories touch on so many subjects and helps children to understand the lessons.:)

5-0 out of 5 stars A Divine Translation!
I have a Master's Degree in Theology and have been disappointed with many children's bibles for various reasons: too simple, too detailed, skewed in perspective, and so forth. This bible is so thoughtful, comprehensive and well written that even an adult reader will get much out of it!It is beautifully and delightfully illustrated as well.I checked this book out of the library for my kids (2 and 6) and found myself enjoying it in my own devotional times! I am now here to purchase this book for our family and for a gift.A friend of mine has a German copy of it that she recently bought while in Germany so more languages might be available as well. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars From a 7 Year Old Boy
YOu should read Favorite Greek Myths sometime. If you have it you should read it again. The first one was the story of Helios and Phaeton.Phaeton wanted to know if he really was the son of Helios. He asked Helios if he was his son.Helios said he would grant him one wish to prove that he was his father.Phaeton asked if he could drive Helios' chariot. He drove the chariot and it went off the track that Helios made and he was heading straight toward earth.Zeus struck the chariot with an thunder bolt to stop Phaeton from chocking Mother Earth. The chariot fell onto the harbor of the sea.Helios never let anyone ride his chariot again.Other stories in this book include stories about King Midas, the Great Bear, Atalanta, Cupid and more.I liked this book.It was 5 stars.

1-0 out of 5 stars Greek Myths With Roman Names
This book is a disgrace to scholarship. The author muddles the entire subject by using the Roman names for the Greek deities. This is simply unacceptable in this day and age. It is disrespectful to the cultures of the ancient societies that produced these sacred stories. It is scandalous that a reputable publisher would have allowed such a travesty into print. As a university instructor of children's literature courses for thirty years, this is the absolute worst book on this topic I have ever read. Avoid it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply Classic.Great for Storytelling.A great gift !!!
From the author of the Magic Tree House books (Grades 2-4).As one reviewer suggests, one can be and should be exposed to these classic stories long before high school! 5-0 out of 5 stars Solid material in a fun format
I am a Christian Education Director and have been looking forsome solid material for older youth 5th-8th grade. This book illustrates each book in the Bible within a couple of pages with black and white line drawing charactures. It may sound young, but even my adult committee wanted copies for themselves. I am putting together an entire curriculum using this book for the youth, over a four year period (two years OT & two years NT), along with "What The Bible Is All About Handbook:NIV Edition" for the teachers to get familiar with the Bible in about ten pages per book and the "What The Bible Is All About 101, 102, 201, 202", which are leader guides to teach.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great resource, teaching tool & reference
This is one of those books where the kids version is better than the adults version! It breaks down the Bible, into sections and sub-sections. For example, it introduces the 1st 5 books of the Old Testament as the Books of the Law, explains why they are called that, the main points, the main people, an outline of what happens in each chapter- and then it goes a wonderful step further, and links in known historical information, a map of 'Where It All Happened', and other pertinent information about the world at that time. The same format is followed for each Book of the Bible. Within each book there are small illustrations & summaries of the main events in each chapter, which are surprisingly well done- not off-putting to an adult, very accessible to a child. The reference materials at the end- a good dictionary of words that one doesn't often see outside of the Bible!, Bible geography, good time lines of the Old & New Testaments, and an amazing 16 pages of good color pictures tucked away at the end make this book a must!5-0 out of 5 stars THE BEST!

5-0 out of 5 stars I liked this Bible
I thought this book was great - I like the NLT though. Another great book is "Now I Know the Ten Commandments". I recommend it to anyone. It is one of the best Children's books on the market.
3-0 out of 5 stars "Moderately helpful, but there are better choices in this genre..."

3-0 out of 5 stars "Kid's" Bible? GREAT for young teens - NOT for preteens.
If you are looking for a Bible that is easy to understand (this is the New Living Translation which reads very much like the Living Bible) for a "kid," i.e., preteen, you might want to look for a different Bible than this. My wife and I both believe this would be a great first Bible for a young teen not raised in a godly home, but several of the themes in the "Sticky Situations" are a little to "sticky" for a preteen. (Our credentials for this assessment? A married daughter with 3 children, a 23 year old son, a 15 year old son, and 20 years of ministry combined with the academic ingredients, blah, blah blah!) :) Read more

I love this book. The overall feel reminded me of the book "Now I Know the Ten Commandments". I recommend it to anyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just in Case You Ever Wonder
Lots of things are written for children about God...I have to say this book and my book I illustrated: DOES GOD KNOW HOW TO TIE SHOES, written by Nancy White Carlstrom, are on the mark, with answers to children's questions about God.You will be able to fine my book also at my website: EslickART.com
5-0 out of 5 stars For Children 6 Years and Up
As a Kindergarten teacher, I would recommend that this book be read in full to the older child who is entering first grade but told to younger children while they look at the pictures. That would allow you to leave out the portion about leaving one another to not upset the child. You could end it by saying God and I will love you forever. I realize death is real and that is something a parent should handle delicately when speaking to a young child about.

5-0 out of 5 stars Children like this book
My children (ages 5-10) love this book.I have also read from this book to hospitalized teenagers; when I read Oedipus I finished the story and heard a chorus of "read it again!"5-0 out of 5 stars Best introduction to its subject that I know of
When one is trying to get a basic overall grasp of Greek mythology, it can be an overwhelming and formidable subject, and one can be at a loss for the best place to start. Most books I've found either give too much detail too fast or else are hit-and-miss selections that don't give a very comprehensive introduction. If that's been your experience too, this book could be an excellent solution to your problem. It gives a highly readable thorough introduction without overwhelming you with details. As an introduction to or review of Greek mythology, it is therefore highly recommendable. Although probably aimed primarily at children, I suppose grown-ups too, if not already expert on the subject, won't find it too elementary.

4-0 out of 5 stars A great book~
This book has great myths. At first, it seems boring, but soon your eyes will be glued onto the pages. It is a wonderful book to share around to your classmates and teachers. Each story has a morel that teaches you well on a situation.I recommend this to people around the teens. ... Read more
