5-0 out of 5 stars The only book you'll need.
I have taught elementary math for over 20 years, and have a master's degree in math education. I found this to be the best book on teaching basic concept of addition and subtraction I have ever had. There are numerous activities which require little preparation, group and individual activities, all of which will teach your students to understand the real meaning of the concepts and help them develop fluency with numbers that will make a significant difference in their futures with math.

5-0 out of 5 stars A "Must Have" for Every Elementary Teacher
This Developing Number Concepts Book, along with the other two books in the Developing Number Concepts series, presents a complete number curriculum for kindergarten through third grade. This book, as well as the othertwo, are clearly written and extremely user friendly. This book,Additionand Subtraction, gives novice and experienced teachers a close look at whatthe teacher needs to know about teaching these operations. The activitiesare simple and require manipulatives and materials most teachers alreadypossess, yet at the same time are child centered and motivating. The"Analyzing and Assessing Children's Needs" section is anexcellent model for providing ongoing assessment in the classroom.Ibelieve these books are a must for every elementary teacher. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars school supplies
Order arrived 2 days later than expected, but I was very pleased with the price I paid and the book was in excellent condition

3-0 out of 5 stars Good In Some Ways; Weak In Others
Our school uses this book for all Geometry classes. The book is quite thorough, but serves the teacher more than the students. The students for the most part don't read it; just use it to find the assigned homework problems.
2-0 out of 5 stars Weak Explanations and Fails to Challenge Even the Average High School Student
As a long time mathematics tutor and teacher I know this book very well. I don't think the material is presented or explained in a way that is especially helpful for young people. As a tutor I have to constantly reintroduce the topic and/or try to stay ahead of the student's class. Beyond that, the students are asked to do only the simplest of proofs. Additionally, a new topic will be introduced and then no problems appear in the exercise portion of the section to help the student test and practice his or her understanding of the newly introduced topic (and of course, those problems invariably will show up on the chapter exam and the final).

2-0 out of 5 stars An overall Disappointment
This book was largely a disappointment. I had heard previously that this was the leading high school text that is used and had high expectations. I was disappointed to find a plethora of type errors (including math mistakes!) and also very poor descriptions of things like bonding theory, equilibrium constants, reaction ratesetc. The book covers a lot but fails to get real advanced in much of anything. I would reccomend for the advanced high school student a college level text with a good teacher instead of wasting your time on this.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not too good for self-study
I'm an 8th grader that wants to learn chemistry very badly, and bought this book.
1-0 out of 5 stars BIG FAT MISTAKE
I just found out from my VISA company that not only you credit my money back but you charged the money for the item that I returned. Another words you charged me twice.

Editorial Review

Roy Eberhardt is the new kid--again. This time around it's Trace MiddleSchool in humid Coconut Grove, Florida. But it's still the same old routine:table by himself at lunch, no real friends, and thick-headed bullies like DanaMatherson pushing him around. But if it wasn't for Dana Matherson mashing hisface against the school bus window that one day, he might never have seen thetow-headed running boy. And if he had never seen the running boy, he might neverhave met tall, tough, bully-beating Beatrice. And if he had never met Beatrice,he might never have discovered the burrowing owls living in the lot on thecorner of East Oriole Avenue. And if he had never discovered the owls, heprobably would have missed out on the adventure of a lifetime. Apparently, bullies do serve a greater purpose in the scope of the universe. Because if itwasn't for Dana Matherson...Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars HOOT
My book for my review was called Hoot. Hoot is about a boy named Roy . Roy is the main character in the story. The author's name is Carl Hiaasen. I would recommend this book to girls because I have know some boy who have read this book and did not like it. Hoot is my favorite book. I have read it 7 times! I think this book is best for girls. From ages 9 to 12 it is more of a kid book than an adult book.

Roy Eberhart, Mullet Fingers, and Beatrice Leep are trying to save little baby owls and their existence from Mother Paula's all American Pancake House, Inc. They do a series of stuff to the construction site so they couldn't build the pancake house in Coconut Cove, Florida.Mother Paula's knows they are there, but they want the pancake house anyway. I recommend this to kids who like fiction and who are very adventurous people.

5-0 out of 5 stars He WILL read this book.... but you should too
There's definitely no tip-toeing around in this book, which is exactly why boys will actually read it.Although I was a little shocked by the authors' candor at times, I also recognize the only way to really get through to adolescent boys is on their playing field.
5-0 out of 5 stars Wish I Had this Growing Up...Every 13 year old Boy Needs this Book.
I purchased this book for my friends son who is 13 years old and before giving it to her I read through it myself. All of the information is very important (12+ years old) and can help educate young boys to make decisions based on knowledge they obtained before there is a problem rather than after, like what I went through when I was growing up and I'm sure countless others have that did not have the benefit and knowledge in this book.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good info, a little too advanced
The first third of this book contained good information for my 11-year-old son.It explains what happens to a boy's body in a way he was able to understand. The remainder of the book also has good information, but the topics of intercourse and STDs were more than my son was ready for. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Although this book was around when many of today's parents wereyoungsters, it has remained a steadfast must-have in every toddler's library. For starters, it's a great vocabulary guide that names the many things that go (and some that haven't a prayer of going, but are great fun to imagine anyway). It's also teeming with detail-rich scenes and characters on every page, teaching children the rewards of looking long and closely (such as finding the hidden "Goldbug" in each spread). Along the way it entertains with the silly and slapstick--everything from toothpaste and toothbrush cars to six fire department vehicles that show up to extinguish a ladybug-size fire in a miniature pink convertible. What's most amazing about this book, however, is its longevity. When you purchase it for your fledgling talker, you should consider it an investment. Even 11-, 12-, and 13-year-olds are known to pore over the book nostalgically, cooing at Lowly Worm and eagerly tracking Officer Flossie's book-long chase after that irresponsible, speedster driver in a cowboy hat. 5-0 out of 5 stars A Scarry Classic
I first read this book to my daughter 22 years ago. It was her favorite, and alas it wore out. Searching to find Goldbug on each and every page was the most fun, and the verse was very entertaining as we did so. It helped teach her words, spelling and all about the different ways to get from here to there. I just reordered a copy to surprise her for Christmas, as she prepares to start her own family. I highly recommend this book by one of the most beloved children's authors.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply outstanding
I grew up with Richard Scarry books, including the now out-of-print "Busy Busy World."For some reason I had forgotten what a gem this is.Any child will delight in it, and for parents it is so nice to have a book that can be different every time you read it, as most of our books are read over, and over, and over.

5-0 out of 5 stars My son's absolute favorite book
My son (21 months and obsessed with cars and trucks) asks to read his "cars and trucks book" every single day. It seems like every time we read it, we find something new. Great for keeping kids engaged, and the photos are excellent. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars We Like Toes, Ears, and Nose Better
These two books - Where Is Baby's Belly Button and Toes, Ears, and Nose are so similar, you only need one of them. And my boys prefer Toes, Ears, and Nose. I'm not sure why, but maybe it's because more body parts are discussed.

5-0 out of 5 stars cute book
My two year old son likes this book, but it would be even better for a younger child. It will be passed down to his baby brother.

5-0 out of 5 stars Loads of Fun for Toddlers!
My 16 month old daughter is not overly excited by most books and loses intrest quickly, but she loves this book and can play with it for an hour. She loves to bring it to us to read with her, and she loves lifting the flaps and she giggles at her accomlishment of showing us where "baby's belly button/eyes/hands etc" are.

My AP Biology class used the Campbell textbook, and I purchased this study guide to read along with it. It's perfect for summarizing the text and it goes into detail which is probably needed for the class tests. I wouldnt advise that you rely on the study guide, however, it is an excellent review with some practice questions and charts in each section that match the textbook. It goes into great depth for it to be a good AP test prep book. If you are looking for a AP Bio prep book for the AP test, I recommend Cliffnotes. If your class is using the respective Campbell textbook, it's a great idea to have this as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars this study guide helped me
This study guide helped to clarify information in my text that was unclear.By using this study guide it helped me to raise my grades in both of my college biology classes.Subjects liked ecology, the five kingdoms and energy pathways were explained with the reader in mind.I also found the following awesome for test preparation:
4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for test review, etc
My AP Biology course uses Campbell's Biology as its main text. I ordered the study guide to help me study for tests. When I do the reading, I use this study guide to read the short summary, then read the section in the book. So far, this strategy has been very effective. In addition, the multiple choice study questions at the end of each chapter is very helpful. This book presents the information in a very organized, logical, and concise way. I would recommend it to anyone. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Ologies are Awesome!
This is third of the "ologies" I have purchased for my 13 year old daughter. We gave her the Dragonology and Egyptology books for Christmas. They are all three gorgeous books that she enjoys over and over. To call this a pop-up book really doesn't do it justice. All kinds of little pockets, notes, baubles, decorations, and such. WELL worth the money.

2-0 out of 5 stars A Garden of Love
Seedfolks is a 69 page book, an easy read. Seedfolks is a book that shows that all different races, religions, cultures, and ages can come together to make something nice and beautiful and have meaning. They took a dump-like place and made it into something beautiful.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Book for Building Community
This small book (69 pages) contains thirteen vignettes, each written from the point of view of a different person. Although the people begin as strangers from various ethnic backgrounds, they become acquainted as each cultivates a part of a vacant lot. As the lot becomes a place of beauty, individual lives are transformed as well -- and a community is created.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good reading for children
This is a good book for children who does not understand the meaning of working together. 4-0 out of 5 stars Some unnecessarily graphic pics
I gave this book 4 stars instead of 5 because of the graphic drawings of a girl inserting a tampon. What young girl needs to see this at 9 or 10?I personally feel that they should use pads until they get the hang of menstruation anyway, then they can buy a box of tampons and read the instructions inside. There is no need to shock them with such graphic pics. The book is wonderful otherwise.I wish I could just remove those pages, but they encompass the whole menstruation topic, so it would really disrupt the book.

3-0 out of 5 stars Care and Keeping of You
I've got to say, this book has some great information about keeping clean and eating healthy, however, I strongly recomend this book for girls under the age of 11. The period information in this book doesn't really help, and with half my friends, (including me) already have gotten their period by age 11 and 12, this book gives you almost no information. The other stuff is common sense. We know how to brush our teeth and brush our hair! Unless you're 9 or 10 (maybe 11?) don't bother with this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very impressed.
My 9 year old daughter & I read this together last week.It is a fabulous book for the "tween" years. It gives detailed information about puberty and caring for your body(how to measure for a bra, insert a tampon, hair care, body changes, etc.) but doesn't get into discussing sex.Though we've talked about sex, I'm glad she has a "reference" book about her body that tells her what she needs to know at this young age.I was so impressed with this book, that I have recommended it to many of my friends with 9-10 year old daughters. The entire section on body image is excellent. They discuss anorexia and bulimia in a factual manner, stressing to girls that these aren't healthy choices.I didn't realize that my daughter had heard of these terms until we read this together.I wasn't sure it was the right time to get into this, but I was wrong. This book is fabulous for starting or extending conversations about the body & puberty. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The Miracle ofyour Child's Birth will Stir Your World
I know that some reviewers feel that this book is exaggerated, unrealistic and that it gives a false perception to children that they are more special than they actually are, but you know what? I don't care. I read the good and bad reviews before ordering it and decided to go ahead anyway. I'm glad I did! The coming of my child may not have stirred anyone else's world but it sure stirred my husband's and mine. When I looked into his beautiful little eyes mine couldn't stop running, and when his little face touched my cheek my heart skipped a beat.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not Age Appropriate
I bought this book for my four-year old.The age recommendation is four to eight. The text is entirely too graphic and detailed for children of this age.Parts of the book read like KISS lyrics or soft-porn.While this book is factually accurate and contains anatomically correct pictures, it is NOT age-appropriate.

5-0 out of 5 stars This was how I learned "the facts of life" :)
I remember thinking this was a great book when I was a little kid. I agree with the reviewer who said that it's most appropriate for small children; I was probably 5 or 6 when my mom gave it to me. I remember it being very cute, and not the least bit distasteful. Half of my family works as delivery room nurses, so I was asking lots of questions early on! I know folks whose parents were so embarrassed about giving "the talk" that they learned everything from kids on the school bus, etc. This book is a great way of presenting information in a way young children can understand, without having to lie to them or change the subject.

3-0 out of 5 stars Pictures are a little much...
Other than the picture of mommy and daddy in the bath tub together, I think this is a pretty good book.It puts this part of life in todler terms. If you are easily offended by graphics, don't buy this book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars the greatest yoga deck
I am a yoga teacher and I work with children. This Yoga deck has been extremely useful and fun. The kids love to pick their cards and build their own sequence. The love to be able to look at the poses and try them.
5-0 out of 5 stars Backbone of a Great Kids Yoga Class
These cards are very useful in structuring a class for children. The children enjoy seeing the brightly colored cards which show how it looks when doing the pose. You can make your own "string of poses" for the children to do, as the deck suggests, by picking a card from each color (rainbow string), or there are other "strings" suggested (basic string, sleepy string, energy string, friends string, calming down string, warm-up for sports string). I teach yoga to children ages 6-12 at a Youth Center, and I use these cards for every class. We mostly use the Rainbow String, except I often put the partner poses (a yellow card) at the end of a class to close it. That way, the children leave the class feeling a connection with one another. Often, I pick two poses in a particular color group (usually the light green and the red cards) to extend the class to a 30 minute time frame. There are really nice GAMES at the bottom of each card, listed after instructions for doing the pose. They are clearly bulleted, and I have found them to be very useful. The children are interested in these cards, and they like to shuffle them around and read them. They can offer input for class content. These cards spark their interest in yoga. I have many "yoga for children" books which I use as supplements occasionally, but this yoga deck forms the structure for the children's yoga classes. I would recommend it for home use also. These cards are easy to use, and they make yoga FUN for the kids!

1-0 out of 5 stars No Games!
Highly disappointed and wasted my $15!!I am extremely disappointed in this deck. The title clearly states that there are games in the deck.3 of us--2 adults and 1 child--have searched the deck for any type of games. Not a single one can be found!!!If you're looking for very basic poses on decent quality card stock, this is fine. However, if it's games involving yoga that you'd like, then save your money and don't buy this! ... Editorial Review

When Dr. Seuss gets serious, you know it must be important. Published in 1971, and perhaps inspired by the "save our planet" mindset of the 1960s, Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Heed the Warning!
The Lorax is another book by Seuss with a powerful message within its pages. Its message is more overt and obvious to the reader than other Seuss books. Simply stated, we must take care of the natural resources around us or they could be forever lost. The main character in the story is filled with greed at the prospect making and selling more Thneeds. He continually ignores the Lorax's warnings. For a while, he and his family are very successful and prosperous, but in time the prophetic warnings come to pass. The trees are all gone, the air is black with smog, and the water is thick with sludge. For me, the Lorax represents those in our society who put themselves on the front lines to protect our environment. Many ridicule them and call them "Tree Huggers!" But, we should think twice before we dismiss their warnings. We have already seen many of the parallels between this book and reality occur.

5-0 out of 5 stars The favorite of a father and a daughter.
As I approached my 100th review, I wondered if I should make it special? Tonight I decided what it should be after reading it to my daughter.
5-0 out of 5 stars How much do I love this book?!
I love, love, LOVE The Lorax! This book should be required reading in schools, especially in light of the current trend towards corporate responsibility. Every time I hear someone defend a toxic product, I think, "But a Thneed is a thing that everyone, everyone, EVERYONE needs!" ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Becoming Scientifically Literate in Today's World
I am reading the book in conjunction with The Teaching Company's "The Joy of Science," which is presented by the Professor Hazen. The purpose of both is give you a background in the sciences-Physics, Chemistry, Earth Sciences and Biology-to make you scientifically literate for today's technical world. This sounds impossible because of the scope of the task. However through clear writing, examples found in the everyday world and excllent illustrations they achieve their goal.
4-0 out of 5 stars Textbook review
Got here kind of slow but the sender apologized in advance. Could be in better shape but you cant expect perfection now can you?

3-0 out of 5 stars Good intentions with conceptual problems
The book covers a lot of subjects with the intention of providing abasic aproach to science. There are, however, conceptual mistakes or lack of precise characterization of important concepts. For instance, it confuses heat with internal energy ( not heat as energy in transit). Also it does not defines mass adequatetly as a measure of inertia, which may cause confusion when one studies relativity. These were problems detected at first sight. The book needs a revision. I suggest to by, through Amazon, "Integrated Science", by Tillery, Enger and Roos, from Mc Graw Hill, to get a general view of fundamental science with a more clear, and rigorous definition of terms. ...
