5-0 out of 5 stars Buy this book!
I bought this book for my 2yr old and he loves it! My 4yr old loves it too. It does a great job teaching kids the cycle of life. The photos are wonderful and the story is simple enough to keep little ones interested, yet gives a great explanation about the circle of life.

4-0 out of 5 stars Amazing Visuals
A wonderful, graphic book about the circle of life. Why are kids so fascinated by pumpkins? Take a look at this visually intense book and see why. The photographs are definitely the feature here, but the text is not bad either, and keeps it at just about the right pace for a 3-5 year old audience.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lots of creative ideas!!!
I love this book!! There are so many creative ideas to get kids involved in gardening!!! I can't wait to try them!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Inspiration Celebration!
As an elementary teacher and a future parent, I am absolutely in love with this book. Sharon Lovejoy's ideas have started my own mind to reel with possibilities and garden projects. Not only are her ideas clever and creative, but she clearly explains the entire process, from planning and preparing to ways to celebrate the harvest! Right off the bat, the book opens with "20 plants every child's garden must have". From vegetables to flowers, handmade dolls, homegrown houses for our feathered friends, mazes, and pizza gardens to sunflower houses, this book is such a gift to anyone who wishes to instill the "sense of wonder".

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful book for toddlers!
Our son has had this book since he was about 19 months old, but he's just now becoming really interested in it a year later. This book is fantastic. The rhymes are a little awkward, but they hold a toddlers attention. The best part though, is that it introduces children to the works of one of the great masters! My son can now see a print of a Van Gogh (or tapestry, or whatever medium the piece is recreated in) and he'll run up to it and yell "Van Gogh!"It's a pretty spectacular thing to see, and what a wonderful gift for early learning!

5-0 out of 5 stars My six month old loves this series
This is the first time I've felt compelled to post a review, but my six month old son absolutely loves these books! The colors are so vibrant and the accompanying rhymes can be read different ways on different days - slowly, quickly, with a rap cadence, with a British accent. They're fun for him, and, by varying the way I read them, they remain fun for me as well!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Introduction to Art
My daughter is 17 months old and loves this series of books. The artwork is representative of the original work and the words do a great job of telling a story for each picture in a descriptive way without "squashing creativity" for the reader.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sunflower Houses Review
Incredible!I loved it from start to finish.Great ideas for a gardening Grandmother to share the garden with her grandchildren.I especially liked the personal history aspect of each idea.

2-0 out of 5 stars If you have "Roots, Shoots, Buckets and Boots"don't bother
Sharon Lovejoy's "Roots, Shoots, Buckets and Boots" has the a lot of the ideas that are in "Sunflower Houses".It's almost as if she wrote "Sunflower Houses" first, thought of better ways to illustrate and do the gardening plans, and then wrote "Roots, Shoots..."(I didn't check the publishing dates - so maybe this is true?)5-0 out of 5 stars The Magic of Childhood
Childhood is captured in this wonderful little book by Sharon Lovejoy. There are few books that make it into my "Magical Books" category, but this book by Sharon fits the bill.If you want to revisit childhood, or create a wonderful experience with your child or grandchild, this book is a must have.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Smelly
This is a very nice book.Good pictures and very potent smells.I would have given it 5 stars if 2 of the smells didn't smell VERY much the same. The smell is put on the page not with stickers (like I am used to when I was little some 30 years ago) but with a texured surface that is only visable when you look at it from an angle.Very large areas of smell make it easy to get a good whiff.I am hoping this new way of smell application also lasts much longer than the old way!!?Happy sniffing!

5-0 out of 5 stars Scents of Summer!
Santa brought my little 2 yr old daughter this book for X-mas! She loves this book and so do I as it is a delight to smell fresh cut grass and fresh cedar wood in the dead of winter here! Am even getting a copy of this book for my 90 yr old grandmother who lives in a nursing home. How she would love to revisit these "warm weather day" smells!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great to teach little ones to smell!
My son who is 11 months loves this book and he loves to smell (and lick!) the different items. It has simple text in the form of questions ("Does the rose smell sweet?") alongside with real-life photos.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent plant book!
This book is outstanding!Far from being for just the pre-school/younger elementary set, it has a wealth of information which even older kids can benefit from.In addition to the text based on the House That Jack Built, it has labeled drawings of garden tools, insects in the soil, seeds, clouds, parts of plants, plants, butterflies, birds, and other insects. We (my kids ages 4 thru 10 and I) had fun pointing out the things we know and learning the ones we didn't.The illustrations are excellent- colorful and detailed. This book is a wonderful addition to homeschool unit studies on plants.

5-0 out of 5 stars Light hearted educational picture book for kids of all ages
Whoever coined the proverb, "a picture is worth a thousand words" could have been talking about Jack's Garden by Henry Cole. 5-0 out of 5 stars This Book Is A Real Winner
I wish this book had been available for me when I was a young child. I'm delighted to be able to give it to my son, age 3. This book shows so many things to be found in a garden - from the first scene where Jack stands shovel in hand in an empty garden through the final page where Jack is surrounded by the beautiful outcome of his work to grow a beautiful garden. Along the way we learn the names of so many creatures and gardening items and see how a garden grows. Buy this book. It's a jewel. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Patch of Pleasure
I purchased The Pumpkin Patch a number of years ago and it is still one of my favorite fall books. The text is direct, going through the stages of pumpkin growth; from seed to harvest, for sale at the Pumpkin Patch, and carving into a jack o'lantern. The large, colorful photographs are a clear asset to the instructional value of the text. I now use this book every fall with primary (K through 3rd grade) students as we learn about pumpkins in the days before our own Pumpkin Patch field trip. It allows us to talk about sequencing (what happens first, next, etc.), how fruits grow from flowers, and the different varieties of pumpkins. The Pumpkin Patch is very educational for children (and adults!) old enough to understand the text and how the sequence of photographs relate to each other.

5-0 out of 5 stars Two Year Old Loves It

5-0 out of 5 stars Garden Crafts for Kids: 50 Reasons to Get your Hands Dirty
One of the most enjoyable books I have found to do garden crafts with my children. Each of the projects were fun and easy to do. I would recommend this book to young and Old.I hope the author is working on another book. Her illustrations were great.

5-0 out of 5 stars Garden Crafts for Kids
Not only is this a great resource for kids, but also for beginning gardeners like myself.I was getting buried by the information in other gardening books...complex soil testing, amending, feeding, etc. This book takes similar information and makes it understandable and makes the resultsseem achievable. The info given on easy-to-grow vegetables, easy-to-growflowers, and, especially, the chart for diagnosing and solving growingproblems are VERY helpful. I found this at the public library and MUST haveit at home!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fatnastic resource for parents of young gardeners!
I was incredibly blessed to have stumbled across this book in our publiclibrary. It has become one of those rare additions to our home collection. For beginner gardeners, or even the seasoned, there is an abundance ofhelpfulinformation within the covers. The pictures are beautiful andcaptivating for children. The craft ideas are inexpensive, fun, and verypractical.Highly recommendo!! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars A treasured favorite!
This beautifully-illustrated book with its simple narrative has quickly become a favorite in our house. My four-year-old nature-loving son is always fascinated by the story that recounts lily's discoveries and experiences in her garden and her wilderness surroundings. Each spread also contains interesting facts and histories of the different kinds of vegetation mentioned in the story, which is helpful in keeping adult readers engaged as well!

3-0 out of 5 stars Fun in the garden
It all starts with the delivery of a box of delicious oranges from Lily's Grandma in California. From there, we spend a year with Lily in her Maine home and watch as she and her garden grow and change month-by-month. The delightful journey also contains a narrative comparison between Lily's Maine garden and Grandma's California growing season (which never ends!). Lily's Garden is beautifully illustrated and has lovely asides providing anecdotal information on the things Lily is doing in and for her garden (a short history of oranges, how to make maple syrup, vegetables in Lily's Garden, Grandma's Blueberry Pancake recipe, etc.). The joys of the seasons and the excitement of gardening are nicely captured in this fun book. ... Read more
