I grew up with this book and today, at the age of 22, I was cheered up with just the thought of it while having my own horrible, terrible, no good, very bad day.
5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Book
I thought this book was great - it was really colorful. The overall feel reminded me of the book "Now I Know the Ten Commandments". I recommend it to anyone.

    Editorial Review

Everyone in town thinks Meg Murry is volatile and dull-witted, and that her younger brother, Charles Wallace, is dumb. People are also saying that their physicist father has run off and left their brilliant scientist mother.Spurred on by these rumors and an unearthly stranger, the tesseract-touting Mrs Whatsit, Meg and Charles Wallace and their new friend Calvin O'Keefe embark on a perilous quest through space to find their father. In doing so, they must travel behind the shadow of an evil power that is darkening the cosmos, one planet at a time. This is no superhero tale, nor is it science fiction, although it shares elements of both. The travelers must rely on their individual and collective strengths, delving deep within themselves to find answers.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable by young and old alike!
The earth is surrounded by a sinister presence - a dark, foul fog that is the tool of an ultimate evil - whose ambition is to enslave the planet with the complete removal of free will. Three magical beings, Mrs Whatsit, Mrs Who and Mrs Which - witches, angels, demigods perhaps - appear to Margaret and Charles Wallace Murry and their friend, Calvin O'Keefe, to persuade them that it is their destiny to battle this evil on its own turf and to rescue Margaret and Charles Wallace's father. Dr Murry has been missing for some months and the kids learn that he has been captured by the evil while he was "tessering", traveling time and space in the course of his scientific research.

In the first week of August we took our two children - aged 4 1/2 and 2 1/2 - to see the movie of Curious George. Both loved it. As a matter of fact my wife and I had never before enjoyed a childrens movie as much as we did this one about Curious George.

    Editorial Review

When Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert of Green Gables, Prince Edward Island, send for a boy orphan to help them out at the farm, they are in no way prepared for the error that will change their lives. The mistake takes the shape of Anne Shirley, a redheaded 11-year-old girl who can talk anyone under the table. Fortunately, her sunny nature and quirky imagination quickly win over her reluctant foster parents. Anne's feisty spirit soon draws many friends--and much trouble--her way. Not a day goes by without some melodramatic new episode in the tragicomedy of her life. Early on, Anne declares her eternal antipathy for Gilbert Blythe, a classmate who commits the ultimate sin of mocking her hair color. Later, she accidentally dyes that same cursed hair green. Another time, in her haste to impress a new neighbor, she bakes a cake with liniment instead of vanilla.Lucy Maud Montgomery's series of books about Anne have remained classics since the early 20th century. Her portrayal of this feminine yet independent spirit has given generations of girls a strong female role model, while offering a taste of another, milder time in history. 5-0 out of 5 stars My children are enchanted, amused and QUIET!
I purchased this CD prior to a family roadtrip last spring, having no prior exposure to Arnold Lobel, or Frog & Toad. My 6-year old son and 4-year old daughter were quick converts. They easily follow the stories, laugh at the absurdities of the characters' sweet friendship. They constantly requested it to be played in the car whenever we were out and about. Since then, we have also purchased "Mouse Tales" on CD, which they also adore. Intelligent, engaging, & fun.

this book came out in 1970......it truly showed me what a really great childrens book should be.......the five stories are about friendship as it should be in real life but it's not......this will truly enlighten anyone who reads it...adult or child.......

4-0 out of 5 stars Endearing
This is a very sweet book. Some of the stories seem to not have point at the end, but that's probably because I'm looking at them from an adult female point of view.Other stories are endearing.A sweet, sweet book that teaches what it is to be a good friend.

5-0 out of 5 stars The simple but true-to-human-life stories and the drawings are a delight.
It's so wonderful to have a book that a very young child can read himself, and then ask the adult, or other reader, with whom he is sitting, for help with difficult words. When I was a kid, 65 years ago, we only read the simplest of books, with no real relationships, because we were expected to read them without help. Frog and Toad have it all over Dick and Jane!

In Cynthia Kadohata's lively, lovely, funny and sad novel -- winner of the 2005 Newbery Medal -- the Japanese-American Takeshima family moves from Iowa to Georgia in the 1950s when Katie, the narrator, is just in kindergarten. Though her parents endure grueling conditions and impossible hours in the non-unionized poultry plant and hatchery where they work, they somehow manage to create a loving, stable home for their three children: Lynn, Katie, and Sammy. Katie's trust in, and admiration for, her older sister Lynn never falters, even when her sisterly advice doesn't seem to make sense. Lynn teaches her about everything from how the sky, the ocean, and people's eyes are special to the injustice of racial prejudice. The two girls dream of buying a house for the family someday and even save $100 in candy money: "Our other favorite book was Read more

    4-0 out of 5 stars Kira-Kira
Life in the 1950's was hard on ethnic groups. One such case is the Japanese family Takeshima. Kira-Kira was written from the daughter Katie's perspective. When Katie and her family move to Georgia she feels bad that she is moving away from her home in Iowa and all of the memories there. Will it be worth it for Katie and her family to move, or will she regret going and feel sad? Read Kira-Kira to find out if Katie overcomes her apprehension and makes new memories and friends. I really liked this book and thought it was saddening, although it was a sad book it was also a great book. I would recommend this book to people that really enjoy books that are based in the past and narrated from the characters personal memories.

When I read this book, I thought that it was a very good book. I couldn't stop myself from reading it and I think you should read it too. I recomend this book. It was very sad and it was very emotional. Even though the story is not a true story, somehow you feel like it is a true story and that means that the author wrote this book well. I hope that if you do read it you will enjoy reading it and I hope you do read this book.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Glittering Book
Life couldn't have been better until Katie and her family moved to Georgia. Katie and Lynn Takeshima lived in Iowa and went to school like every Japanese girl would. Both their parents went to their store every morning to work. But when they lose the store because no one wanted to buy Japanese original products. The family had to move to Georgia where they had family, Katie's uncle. Once they moved there their mother had a baby boy, Samson. After a year of nothing really happening, Lynn got really sick with iron lose and later on cancer. After going through some tough times, Lynn died New Years morning. Editorial Review

A deer in his canoe, a bear attack, a leg stabbed with anarrowhead--it's just another week in the life of 16-year-old Brian Robeson. In his opinion, this beats a date at Mackey's Pizza Den, a fight with a bully, and a video game at the mall any day. After having survived a plane crash and 54 days in the Canadian wilderness several years earlier, Brian can't seem to fit into "civilization." The world of high school and family life makes no sense anymore. So Brian begins to plan. It's time to return to the woods. This time, though, he makes no plans to come back home. Read more

I think Brian's return is one of the better books I've read because it relates to nature. The reason why I like nature so much is because I live out in the country so I'm out in the woods alot just like Brian. My favorite part in the book was when he scared the bear away. I liked that part because it was really suspenseful. If I would have to go up against a bear with a bow. I wouldn't wait until it got sloser to me if it was already tring to corner me like it did to Brian.

    Editorial Review

Seventy-five years ago, that most beloved of "silly old bears,"Winnie-the-Pooh, came down the stairs, "bump, bump, bump," on the back of his head, behind Christopher Robin. And now, after generations of children have grown upon stories about Pooh's adventures with his forest friends, the four all-timechildren's classics from A.A. Milne and Ernest H. Shepard have been collected inone hefty, handsome volume for another multitude of generations to enjoy.Gathered together are the poems and tales that celebrate heffalumps, Eeyore'sbirthday, the unbouncing of Tigger, Disobedience, Buckingham Palace, andsneezles. The stories about Pooh getting stuck in Rabbit's doorway, Piglet doinga "Very Grand Thing," and Eeyore losing a tail (and Pooh finding one) aretimeless favorites for children--and grownups--of all ages. Four originalclassics are here, in all their glory: Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Collection of Classic Stories and Poems
Finding a "Winnie the Pooh" book is easy. It all depends what you are looking for. For the many parents and grandparents hoping to read the wonderful stories to younger people the adventures of Pooh, Christopher Robin, Tigger, Eyeore, Piglet, Kanga, Rabbit, Owl and the rest, this will be more than adequate.
5-0 out of 5 stars I am Pooh!
ever since i can remember, my nick name has always been Pooh...because supposedly i am a bear of very litle brain! plus i'm blond! The reason for the nick name was that it is my favourite book in the world, and i never tire of it! Some may think that the name is vulgar, but once you start to read it, you love it more and more. Without doubt one of the best books ever written, if not the best. If you haven't read it, i advise you do, because it is every bit as magical, as everybody thinks it is.

When Christopher Robin asks Pooh what he likes doing best in the world, Pooh says, after much thought, "What I like best in the whole world is Me and Piglet going to see You, and You saying 'What about a little something?' and Me saying, 'Well, I shouldn't mind a little something, should you, Piglet,' and it being a hummy sort of day outside, and birds singing."Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A Winning Book
The tales are lovable, enjoyable and moving, and perhaps the most important thing is that although written for kids, we adults can reflect on the way we live our daily lives. We live through the pages the feelings of all characters fear, amazement, joy, kindness, self-inflicted misery, competitiveness, good times, and most of all, positiveness and passion to enjoy and nature true friendship. We have these feelings and emotions as human beings. There are Rabbits, and Tiggers and Owls and Piglets all around us and we can barely seem to recognize them in our friends or the people we communicate with every day. Illustrations are gorgeous,an outstanding vision of life.

Who doesn't love Winnie The Pooh? Don't answer that. This is an excellent and charming book to use for bedtime stories for children. I grew up with it and I still love it! It endears the simplicity of life and love...and honey.

This story is delightful. We bought it because we were taking our 2.5 yr old along on a ski trip and wanted him to have a silly little story that related to the mountain and skiing (even though he's not on skis yet).Well, it is just that... and more. He's learned a lot, developed an interest in skiing (maybe next year) and always gets a good laugh out of this book! It's also fun that George seems to invent snowboarding - my husband and I got a big kick out of that and have shared the story with many adult friends (isn't everyone a Curious Geroge fan?)!

    4-0 out of 5 stars Review by Alaisiah P.S. 39 and Michael P.S. 39
You should read Frog and Toad because they can teach kids a lot of lessons. For example, if you are a kid and you want to learn to be nice to a friend then Days with Frog and Toad is a really good book for you. You'll also learn that sometimes friends aren't nice to each other. So, if you're the kind of reader who wants to learn about relationships then this is a book for you to read.

We "got" Eloise as soon as we read the first page.My daughters, 4 and 6 love, love, love Eloise. They love her antics and can visualize the trouble she gets into so innocently (or not).Eloise is curious, inventive, creative, sleuthy, and definitely oblivious. We travel a lot so my kids can relate to being in a hotel.Eloise lives in a hotel so there are lots of opportunities to involve others (other guests, employees, restaurant staff, telephone operators, etc.) in her wicked (hilarious) fun. After we read Eloise for the first time (and we love the Essential Eloise the best, then Paris) we could not wait until the next night to read some more.

The picures are wonderful, stories are great, but the part of The Story of Eloise, they miss judged the spacing and left out the 1st letter of the starting paragraph. Someone didn't proofread it right. You get all 4 book, one great buy with the extras! ( the scrapbook and the story of Eloise) Hopefully they caught the errors for the next printing.
