It's good to know that parents on this sight are changing the words of this book to protect their children from such harsh words....God knows they will NEVER hear anything like this while in school!!
5-0 out of 5 stars Junie B. Jones
Yes, we all agree that the language is not what we want our children to speak, but after all we are reading a book. That's it a Book! These books are adored by my children and they know that they are just books telling a story.Isn't that what we read for, to hear a story, to build our imagination and to dream. If we as parents are doing our job, our children should know not to act like books they read, tv shows they watch (how about MTV) or movies they see.Thats what they are stories.I recommend these books highly. For all the nay sayers, I am sure that you guys don't watch anything such as Desperate Housewives, Soaps etc. Perfect as we like to think we are, it is all about making a choice, your choice!

1-0 out of 5 stars Junie's rude and I can't find anyting that redeems her.
Why someone would chose these books is beyond me, especially when there are so many other good choices. Literature has an impact on people and the only impact I can imagine Junie having on others is negative.

Young readers will devour this fancy new boxed set ofthe first five paperbacks in the side-splitting, potty-humored (literally)Captain Underpants series. 5-0 out of 5 stars I am in just as much suspense as my 7 year old to get to the next chapter!!
I bought this box set because of readers reviews & I could not be more happy. My son follows me around the house and has asked me at 7am to read more Captain Underpants, how can I say no... he loves it and we love it too.The author does a great job presenting the stories in a way kids and parents will love.I am waiting to see an ACME product in the book to along with the PATSY 2000, 3-D imaging machine.
5-0 out of 5 stars Captain Underpants 1-5
Funny ,Yet Bawdy reading. My seven year old brought one of these home from the school library one day. Although initially shocked by the bathroom humour in the book I realized my son was reading as fast as he could. This is the adult equivalent of a "couldn't put it down" novel. I purchased the 5 book series and tried rationing the books over a week or so. Let me tell you , he wanted the next book as soon as he finished the previous one.It is important to note that this should not be the only type of reading your child should do, I look at these books a kind of a fun playful reward, like a movie or music.

3-0 out of 5 stars Kids love poopy talk
My daughter discovered the Captain Underpants series a couple of months ago and I have to say, at first I wasn't sure I wanted to encourage her reading nonsense material. When I read the titles of the books, I had such a laugh and it really hit me why some kids love these books--they are sooo funny and it's exactly the kind of thing that a attracts a child.Kids love potty talk and silly pictures and the seeing Harold and his friend get into constant trouble with the principle at their school. These jokesters are forever playing pranks and trying to get themselves out of trouble.Yes, it's complete nonsense, but, it got my daugther to read chapter books!she's hooked. She loves to read and it's her love for reading that I'm encouraging not the nonsense. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars These books are great....especially for younger kids
My 6 year old daughter and I have started reading the first box set (I read them to her older sister at this age). They are very funny and even when I read a passage that is not "correct English" my daughter will laugh because she knows that's not the way you talk. That's what makes it so funny. We just finished Sneaky-Peaky Spying which is one of my favorites. How horrible is it to a little kid when she thinks she sees her Teacher stealing grapes at the grocery store???I highly recommend this collection!

5-0 out of 5 stars Junie B. Jones is the koolestess 6 year-old on the hole planit!!!!
Yes, I know there are typos in the title. Yes, I intended them. If you can't get over them, you aren't quite as mature as is Junie B. Jones. My daughter is 6 and in first grade. We discovered the Junie B. Jones series when one was sent home in her reading folder for homework. Thank you to her teacher for sending that book. We have since read every title we can find in the series. While I'm reading to our daughter, my wife is laughing from the other room as she tries to listen to Junie B.'s wonderful antics. While she is learning to spell (just like my daughter) she is wise beyond her ears (as Junie would say). Reviewers of these books who can't get over Junie's use of grammar are missing the point. The stories have wonderful themes and Junie always learns the right lesson by the last chapter, despite her best efforts. Each and every title fits the world of a first grader to a T. My daughter is getting 5 more titles for Christmas this year. Please don't tell her. I want it to be a surprise! If I can let you in on a secret, I'm looking forward to her getting them, too...and my mother was such a strict grammarian that she wouldn't even let me use an adverb incorrect. JOKE!!!!!!!!!
    5-0 out of 5 stars Junie B Jones-ness
We enjoy the Junie B Jones series, and this set is no different. The character is a fun character, and everyone in the family gathers around when someone starts to read it aloud, usually my 17 year old daughter to her older sister! The two of them crack up over Junie B together. The younger ones love the stories too. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A rich part of this bilingual Canadian's heritage
Among my very early memories is as one of several children sitting on the sloped lawn between two of my neighbour's houses, each of us reading a different story - and so, in no particular order - from "Les Aventures de Tintin." This was my introduction to the most extraordinary comics world ever created, a part of my French-language heritage, though the series has been translated into many languages including English. My goal with these reviews (one for each volume) is to explain to an American audience why Tintin is such a phenomenon in the rest of the world.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Homerun for Boys
There are soooo many series books for girls (Amer Girl, Junie B, blah blah blah) but very few chapter books that boys eat up.These Captain Underpants books are great! My son got his first box set of these from his grandma (who's a librarian) for his 5th birthday.I think that's the perfect age to get introduced to this series.Yes, I might prefer that my son read more classic books, but he absolutely LOVES these! He giggles & begs for another chapter (which are very short, which is nice).Give these a try, they are perfect for kindergarden thru 2nd grade boys.

5-0 out of 5 stars Delightful from beginning to end
As a parent, this may very well be my favorite bedtime story.Don't judge the book based on the TV show-- it is much better!Max and Ruby are making birthday cakes for Grandma.Max is making an earthworm cake but Ruby wants to make an angel surprise cake with rasbery fluff frosting.Despite Ruby's increasingly restrictive instructions, Max keeps knocking her ingredients off the table, and Ruby keeps sending him to the store with a shopping list for replacements.Max wants red hot marshmellow squirters to top off his cake, and his attempts to communicate this to the grocer make up the heart of the story.
4-0 out of 5 stars Bunny Cakes
This is an excellent picture book for young children. The story line is simple and easy for kids to connect with. Many children have siblings and can relate to Max and Ruby. The illustrations are heart warming and draw the reader in. Rosemary Wells repitition of events within the plot make her an excellent storyteller. Bunny Cakes is an endearing story.

    Editorial Review

From the first day of third grade, when Ramona Quimby meets hereventual nemesis Yard Ape, life moves on at its usual wild pace--usual for the boisterous Ramona, that is. Soon she is accidentally squashing a raw egg into her hair at the school cafeteria, being forced to play Uncle Rat with her annoying young neighbor, and, worst of all, throwing up in her classroom. The responsibilities of an 8-year-old are sometimes daunting, especially in a family that is trying to squeak by while the father goes back to school. But Ramona is full of too much vim and vigor to ever be down for long. Read more

In the end of the book after a much hard day of frustration the family goes on a limb and goes to Whopperburger. While there they come across an old man who is interested in the family. Towards the end of the meal the Quimbys find out that the man has paid for their dinner, because they remind him of his family and how nice of a family the Quimbys are. This action makes the whole family realize how special their relationship is and how even though they all may be cross in some situations that they are in fact one happy family!

Volume 7: The Castafiore Emerald (1963), Flight 714 for Sydney (1968), Tintin and the Picaros (1976). This is the last instalment of my reviews of each of the seven volumes.
5-0 out of 5 stars How can you go wrong w/ Tintin? Love it!
Tintin is cool. The classic stories are a joy to read & Captain Haddock is always a riot! Funny, suspensful stories! Well worth it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Tintin is sooo wonderful
I love Tintin, and I would reccomend that you buy this book. It is the last three books in the Tintin seiries. If you are a Tintin maniac like me, then you would definately buy this. Even if you aren't a maniac, I would still reccomend it. Tintin in the Picaros is very good, and Flight 714 is verry funny. Even though they say Tintinis a reporter-slueth, I think he is more like a detective because he always has a gun. This book is soooo good. It won't take that long to read all three adventures, but you can always read them again. GO TINTIN! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A trio of solid Tintin adventures from the late 1930s
Volume 2 of "The Adventures of Tintin" brings together a trio of stories by Herg from the late 1930s, right before World War II.This is noteworthy because at this point Herg is refining his attention to cultural detail in these stories, but also starting to get more fanciful and away from what is happening in the real world. You will still find allegorical elements in these stories, but none of the events ripped from the headlines that you saw in previous tales such as "The Blue Lotus."
4-0 out of 5 stars Tin Tin, a literary comic.
I've read a little of the Tin Tin series, enough to make sure they are appropriate for young eyes, but my son loves reading them. They are colorfully illustrated and have lively stories and humor. My son is 11 and still likes to see pictures in his books. As far as that goes, I do too! This is a very fun series and I recommend it especially for kids who complain about reading in general. The Tin Tin series is engaging and fun. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

Pippi is an irrepressible, irreverent, and irrefutably delightful nine-year-old girl who lives alone (with a monkey) in her wacky house, Villa Villekulla. When she's not dancing with the burglars who were just trying to rob her house, she's attempting to learn the "pluttification" tables at school; fighting Adolf, the strongest man in the world at the circus; or playing tag with police officers. Pippi's high-spirited, good-natured hijinks cause as much trouble as fun, but a more generous child you won't find anywhere. Astrid Lindgren has created a unique and lovable carrot-topped character, inspiring generations of children to want to Read more

It was very empowering for me as a child to read Pippi's adventures. Her independence, common sense, strength, resourcefulness, and compassion were a tremendous inspiration to me and continue to be very commendable qualities.I don't believe much was lost in the translation of these books because the storytelling flows superbly and is exciting, engaging, and enduring. As a youngster, my favorite elements of these stories included Pippi's horde of gold, pet horse, physical strength, fantastic adventures, and red hair.As an adult, I am drawn to the heroine's wisdom and goodness of spirit. For adults who read Pippi as a child, I recommend a revisit to her world for a fresh view of her character as well as delightful reminiscing. This is terrific reading for all ages both girls and boys.

This is a great, well-made and glossy volume of all three books in one! With caricatured illustrations, this is a fine addition for any book collector or family!

Pippi Longstocking is a lot of things. She plays with sparklers, she plays with guns, she resists arrest, flaunts her supernatural power, manhandles bothersome adults, insults them and disregards them as silly. She's self-important, arrogant, callous, rude, undignified, and absolutely perfect.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars The books are still great but the illustrations are different!
This set, 'Wayside School Boxed Set' is also known as 'The Wayside School Collection' and contains all three of the "real" books in the 'Wayside School' series. 'Sideways Stories From Wayside School', 'Wayside School is Falling Down' and 'Wayside School Gets A Little Stranger' are as entertaining as they always were. The price is very good and you even get the three boxes together in a box. Please note that you do not get the Wayside Arithmetic books, which really were for more devoted fans and did nothing to enhance the actual storyline found in the three major/main books.

5-0 out of 5 stars My son loves these books!
My son just could read these books fast enough. I think he's become a big fan of this book series. He's even got me reading them. They have a wonderful wackiness about them that can't help but make you giggle at the genius of the silliness that is Wayside School. ... Read more

Georgia Nicholson is at it again in the newest installment of Louise Rennison's hilarious series about the trials and tribulations of a lovelorn British high school girl. STARTLED BY HIS FURRY SHORTS does not disappoint readers who have grown to love the quirky Georgia, her eccentric family, and her Ace Gang of best buddies.
5-0 out of 5 stars Let's go down the disco!
In this, the seventh book of the Georgia Nicholson series, Georgia finds herself in "the oven of luuurve" once again. At the end of the last book, Then He Ate My Boy Entrancers, Georgia had given the Italian Stallion, a.k.a. Masimo, an ultimatum: to be an exclusive couple.
5-0 out of 5 stars Laugh-till-you-fall-off-the-bed humor laced with slightly raunchy fun that will keep you reading long into the night!
Georgia Nicolson is not currently in a happy place regarding her love life. In fact, she's stuck in neutral in more ways than one. According to Georgia, she's not only on the rack of romance, but in the cakeshop of agony, the oven of luuurve, and the bakery of pain. And, if you must know why, it is all because of the Italian Stallion, Masimo. The man who has knocked the Sex God - aka Robbie - right out of her mind, and taken up residence in her heart, as well as in the band the Stiff Dylans, as their new singer. But Georgia has made the mistake of a lifetime. For, when she finally decides to give Masimo an ultimatum - become her one and only or hit the road - he tells her that he needs to think about it. And, we all know that whenever a guy uses the words "I need to think about it," he can't be thinking anything good. Which is why Georgia is on the rack of romance. Now, to distract herself from thinking about Masimo and the fact that he may not call her, or even want to be with her romantically, Georgia has thrown herself headfirst into MacUseless play rehearsals at Stalag 14, and is in the midst of helping Ro-Ro plan a Viking wedding that is scheduled to take place around five years from now. The only problem is that Dave the Laugh is around more than ever - what with MacUseless rehearsals and such, and Georgia is finding herself more and more pre-occupied with kissing him, all because she has been struck by the horn. If only Masimo would just give her the news, she could spend all of her time kissing him - or at least dreaming about kissing him.
