5-0 out of 5 stars Fun Review
Very good review of a current sports star.Easy for my 7 year old daughter to understand and keep her interested.

3-0 out of 5 stars Mia Hamm and How She Started
I would recommend this book not only to people who love soccer, but to everyone who enjoys a true story about a great athlete and role model. The story of Mia Hamm is basically about how she was introduced to soccer and how she follows her dream to be the best women's soccer player in the world.

5-0 out of 5 stars The book is really better than it looks like!
On teh field with Mia Hamm by Matt Christopher was a very goodbook.I didn't have a very good idea who Mia Hamm really was though. The only thing I know is a professional soccer player.I aw the book and it looked pretty interesting.I'm about a quarter of the way through the book and I'm liking it so far.Usually I don't read books , let alone a whole book. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Best shortstop in New York history
I am a huge fan of Derek Jeter's. That's why I chose this book. I gave it five stars because Matt Christopher described every part of Derek's life accurately. I had already read Derek's autobiography and in that book I learned that his Dad made him sign contracts. In these contracts with his father, Derek had to promise to get good grades -- or else he didn't get to play in any All Star games or anything. Later, dude!

5-0 out of 5 stars Must read at the Plate with Derek Jeter
The book I'm reviewing is At the Plate with Derek Jeter by Matt Christopher. I think this book deserves five stars. This book is a Derek Jeter biography. A problem that occurs in this story is when he's in high school. He almost gets cut from the team. This tells you how Derek Jeter became a pro baseball player. I would recommend this book to anybody.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great book to read with a young baseball fan
This series in general, and the Jeter book in particular, are great for a 5-10 year old sports nut.I read this with our 6 year old, a chapter a night for a couple weeks.

4-0 out of 5 stars Golf's never been so interesting
Boy or girl, young or old, readers will love reading about Tiger Woods' inspiring rise to the top of the golf world. Overcoming racism, economic hardship, and personal limitations, Tiger leads the pack at an incredibly young age. My 9-year-old son and 6-year-old daughter and I read this together, and we were all equally enthralled and inspired by Tiger's story. It was accessible without being overly simple. We're looking forward to reading more entries in Matt Christopher's biography series.

1-0 out of 5 stars Skating book with Tony Hawk
Matt Christopher is on the Halfpipe WIIIIITH......no idea what a half pipe is.Matt's a writer, not a skater and it shows. You'd be more satisfied with documentaries or interviews on Tony Hawk if that's what you're interested in.Save your money!
1-0 out of 5 stars Not worth it
Why would you want to read this book when Tony Hawk wrote his own? That has all the information on him you need to know--plus more that wasn't covered in this book. Tony Hawk rocks and I would rather read what he writes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Grumpy Pumpkins
This is a touching book about the Pee Wee Scouts and the good deeds they do at Halloween. The Pee Wee's and their leader, Mrs. Peters, have fun visiting a Pumpkin farm, picking out their own pumpkin, creating and making their halloween costumes, and visiting a nursing home.Find out the lesson Molly learns about Grumpy Pumpkins! This is one of my favorite Judy Delton books. I like the way Delton uses scouts as a theme for her books instead of athletics. It shows young children how there are many activities, other than sports, that they can participate in and enjoy. The text has humor, as well as a serious side, that combine to grab the attention of the young reader. The illustrator uses black and white, cartoon-like, sketches throughout the book that add humor and fun to the text. ... This book is a good one to read if you like to read about the Seattle Mariners. They list Randy Johnson, Alex Rodriguez, Edgar Martinez and how they got their victory and got into the playoffs. It talks about when Ken Griffey, Jr. was a kid and how he grew up with his father, who played for the Cincinnati Reds.He practiced with his dad sometimes in Yankee Stadium, until his dad couldn't strike him out anymore. It says who he got married to, his likes, his dislikes. All in all, I rate this a 5 star book.

3-0 out of 5 stars Matt Williams, 7th Grade
Brett Thyson had just moved to Springton. While workers were working in his backyard, one of them points out a buried box. One worker gives it to Brett and he discovers a skateboard that originally belonged to Lance Hawker, a pro skateboarder who had passed away. So when Brett tests it out, it can make him do amazing tricks that he could not do before on his old board. Brett was thinking of writing a letter to the editor of their newspaper so they can build a skatepark. But it was never done. When Brett's neighbor, Mrs. Weatherspoon, heard of this she had her backyard emptied and had sktepark built for everyone to go to. Brett always wanted to be the best skater in town along with Kyle Robinson. As Brett is telling this to Mrs. Weatherspoon, a few days later she sets up a contest for Brett, Kyle, and everyone who would like to participate. Can Brett win with his mysterious skateboard?

Chip Hilton scores big in Freshman Quarterback. Some of the problems he faces are as relevent today as they were in the original writings. The updates are great and still don't detract from the quality and messageClair Bee originally intended. I wish I could be on Chip's team, just likeI wanted to when I first read the series in the early 60's! Great Book,Great Series! Thanks for bringing them back! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Dear reader
I really liked the book. It gives excellent tips on soccer. The tips come from a little boy that comes from England to America. The little boy's name is Mark. And his parents are getting divorced and he comes from England and moves to America to live with his grandparents. This book is great it shows you how the little boy over came his challenges. I like how he doesn't let any of the kids on the team get to him because he has to live with his grandparents. This is a great book. I suggest it for any reader.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Comeback Challenge was Great!
I thought that The Comeback Challenge was great. Mark, who was on the scorpions team, was angry that his parents, who kept on fighting, and they each wanted him to live with him or her, because they were getting a divorce. Currently, he had to live with his grandparents, until it was settled. Also, the team captain Lance, didn't really like Mark that much. At the end Mark stays with his grandparents another year. Mark was the one to tell the judge that. Also at the end the problem with Lance was solved, and Mark was elected captain for the next soccer season. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The story of Ichiro's successful rookie season in 2001
Although "At the Plate with...Ichiro" ends with the Seattle Mariner's rookie season in 2001 it is still worth reading. That is because the point of Matt Christopher's book is how a player everybody said was too short, too skinny, and too weak to make it in professional baseball in the United States ended up winning both the American League Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player awards.Even though Ichiro continues to be a star, last year breaking George Sisler's record for most hits in a single season, the key lesson here is how he succeeded as the first Japanese-born position player in Major League Baseball.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars great series
This is a great series and a good pack to get started on. There are 23 books all together and I am on 21. Although not through direct this series is based on christain morals through sports. Being an athlete I loved reading this series. I did not like reading until I got these books and I began to fly. Partly because sports always intersted me and I felt like I was apart of the series.
