4-0 out of 5 stars I Spy Christmas for Everyone
I ordered I Spy Christmas for my younger sister because our whole family enjoys I Spy books. Some of the sets in this book are: a cookie collage...pinecones in the snow...under the Christmas tree... they're really beautiful!

5-0 out of 5 stars Oh what fun it is to spy...
If you're familiar with the I Spy series, you know what to expect in this book. If you're new to the world of I Spy, imagine staring in your fully stocked refrigerator looking for the Philly cream cheese. You know it's there - you just bought it yesterday - but for the life of you, you can't find it. Then your spouse comes by, reaches around you and grabs the tub from beside the two-liter bottle of Pepsi. I Spy is just like that: you know what you're looking for, you know it's in the picture somewhere, and some clown is bound to come by and find it immediately after you've been searching for a half an hour. That's why I recommend letting your spouse have first crack at the pictures. It makes your finding the specified objects a breeze.
5-0 out of 5 stars This is one of the best Christmas books....
My son (He's 6) and I enjoy this book very much.It is an adventure everytime we read it.The extra Credits are also very challenging... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars the WOWWEE factor............
Everyone says WOW when I show them this book!
5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Book!
I took my 1 year old to a bookstore to get her some books and music. The title "One Red Dot" caught my attention and imagine my amazement when I opened the book! I showed it to my daughter, she got so excited she tried to touch the pop up shapes. Sadly, some child loved the book so much that they tore up some of the pop ups and there weren't any more copies available at the store. As soon as I put it back on the shelf, my daughter started howling because she wanted it and she wouldnt stop screaming until we got to the car! Needless to say, I am going to order this book for her!

5-0 out of 5 stars Everyone loves this!
I bought this for my 5 year old son, because he is definitely a "color outside the lines" kid. When he started Kindergarten his teacher told me that he doesn't color in the lines (well, we never made him, we love his free spirit coloring). Anyway, he has never liked your traditional coloring books and I thought these might be a good way to help him color in the lines but still let him use his imagination. (I bought both the Doodles and Scribbles by the way). These are just awesome. WELL worth the price! My son loves them, my husband loves them, and I love them. The added unforeseen plus was that it has made some great bonding time when we sit and do these books with our son. The only complaint I would have (and believe me, this is very minor) is that I wish the books lay flat when open, maybe like a spiral binding instead of a regular book binding. Other than that, they are awesome. I highly recommend these!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Product
My kids and I love "Doodles".Since receiving my copy, I've suggested it to several friends and all of them have picked up a copy as well. The drawings are fun and my kids are always entertained and challenged...great for car trips or anywhere you and your kids are stuck sitting around waiting.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book, well worth its price
Your kids will never need another coloring book! This is a huge book that will keep the kids very entertained at home on a rainy day or in the car.And it's so much more than a coloring book; it's an activity book that even younger children can use.One example of what's in the book, there are four pages each with the exact same landscape. At the top of each page is a different "direction."One says "it's spring," the next "summer," the next "fall" and the last "winter is finally here." Great for fostering creativity and highly recommended. ... Read more

Editorial Review

T. J. Jones is black, Japanese, and white; his given name is The Tao(honest!), and he's the son of a woman who abandoned him when she got heavilyinto crack and crank. As a child he was full of rage, but now as a senior inhigh school he's pretty much overcome all that. With the help of a goodtherapist and his decent, loving, ex-hippie adoptive parents, he's not onlyfairly even-keeled, he has turned out to be smart and funny. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars It takes a book this good for people to want to censor it.
Chris Crutcher, Whale Talk (Dell, 2001)
3-0 out of 5 stars The best book
Whale Talk is a very interesting book, even though it is boring in the beginning and I almost brought the book back and almost picked another book to read but I decided not to and I'm glad I didn't because this is a great book. Its about a colored boy named T.J who was adopted because his mother did drugs and he was adopted to a mother who is a lawyer and he also has a dad and they are both very nice and they always wanted a kid but never could have one. T.J likes to swim, so he gets people together to make a swim team and a reason why he is doing this is because he wants him and the other people on his team to have there own letter jackets, because in there school you cant where a letter jacket unless you earned it by doing a sport or activity. So T.J gets a swim team together and the people on his swim team are people who dot really fit in with other people at school but they all get to know each other and become friends.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book.
Whale Talk is about a teenager named T.J. Jones. He has a very hard and unhappy childhood, his mother leaves him and someone adopts him. The parents that adopted him are very nice and kind. His dad looks like a crazy biker, but is actually a soft-hearted man, especially when it comes to kids. His mom is a lawyer and helps T.J. alot. The storyline is basically T.J. trying to start a swimming team. He tries to gain more members and it the end he gets a swim team filled with misfits. They work hard and get to know each other good. The book ends with a surprising chapter, and it teaches T.J. a big lesson.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great birthday gift for 9+ year old boys
We checked this book out of the library for my son after reading about it on one of their "recommended reading" lists for boys. After watching my son walk around day after day with it, and seeing him fold down every other page in the book, I had to get him his own copy.I ordered two extras for gifts. The first one he gave was a huge hit - the boy's mom told me that her son was also enthralled with it.The third copy never even made it to a birthday party - a friend came over with her two sons (8 and 10) and they were having so much fun reading through the book that I had to give them the last copy.Soon I'll be ordering more to stock up for upcoming parties - this is a sure hit for boys.Just in time too - once they hit 9 or so, it's hard to figure out what to give as gifts since toys are beginning to lose their luster.

5-0 out of 5 stars Boy Stuff is Hot Stuff!
For a 10-year old boys, summer and boredom could be synonymous. Not with the Big Book of Boy Stuff! Our son saw a classmate's book, brought often to school for free reading time, and could not bear the brief bits of time he was allowed to read his friend's.He had to have his own, to bring home, to read outside, to read in bed. This book is chock full of fascinating facts and fun activities that a boy can do on his own.10 is an age when independence rocks! This book keeps the boy and his parents happy for many long hours. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Like a young Irv Kupcinet
Lupica spins a tale of baseball as it was meant to be played. It's pretty apparent that Lupica was not much of an athlete when he was younger as he misses on a lot of detail. It's also questionable whether he's ever been in a relationship with a female because all of that dialogue and those scenes rang completely false.
5-0 out of 5 stars GREATEST BOOK I HAVE EVER READ!
This book is definatley without a doubt the best book i have ever read. It is about a young boy who lives right by Yankee stadium. His name is Mike Arroyo. He is 12 years old. He is a terrific baseball player in little league. Sometimes all mike has in his life is baseball. It is a great read for those who love baseball. I extremely recomend this to everyone. This book is based on an urban atomosphere. He and his friend manny are very close. Mike and Manny can always joke around wenever they need to. However, manny is the only one who knows his one true secret. YOU WON'T REGRET READING THIS BOOK!

5-0 out of 5 stars THIS BOOK WAS AMAZING
this book by mike lupica was an AWESOME follow up of TRAVEL TEAM. all his books r VERRRY well written. this was a real life situation that really touched me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Grover rules
I had this book when I was growing up,I bought it for my son when he was young and now I have bought another for my daughter. We all enjoy this book. Grover is the funniest Sesame Street character. In the story Grover tries to use bricks, string, ect. to keep the kids from turning pages because of the monster at the end of the book. My kids loved turning the pages.

3-0 out of 5 stars Baseball in april and other stories
The book Baseball in april and other stories is a book based on different stories in it. I think that it's a fun book to read for us teens because if you find the first story boring or you not interested in the story, you can go to the next story. I think books like that have different stories that relate to each other(I guess. There were only about three (3) stories that I didnt like or it was just boring to me.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great storytelling
I discovered Gary Soto's poetry in a public library in Nebraska. Then I read his short stories, my favorite being "Baseball in April." Like his poetry, these stories are beautiful in that they reveal a child's inner thought life; they also show the challenges that teenagers go through.
4-0 out of 5 stars good

5-0 out of 5 stars Budding fashion designers will love it!
This is an excellent book that my 12 year old daughter, and ALL her friends have truly enjoyed. The book comes with stencils for outfits. It also comes with patterned paper to use for the outfits. It has a great selection of paper. The paper is similar to scrapbook paper but seems specially designed for the small outfits as the patterns on the paper go well with small outfits. Finally, it has some wire hangers - sized to fit the outfits. The girls have had hours of fun with this book.My daughter glues all the outfits into a notebook, and the friend who designed it "signs" the page.My only wish is that there was an address or phone number where you could order additional paper packs. While Klutz is generous when they give you the paper, my kids are using it a LOT!Her 8 year old sister enjoys it too.It is suitable for any age that is very good with scissors. The outfits are quite small.I plan to purchase some of these to use as birthday gifts to have on hand. This is one of the best activity books we've purchased.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for kids and adults!
I bought this book as a activity to share with my neice who is 8.We both loved it.The book is full of inspiration and helpful tips like how to use your finished creations and also how to use scissors more accurately and how to glue without making a mess. The papers and accents they supply are really nice and the fashion stencils are perfectly engineered. It comes with everything you need except the scissors.I enjoyed it so much that I bought another copy for myself and for some of my crafty friends who love fashion.I really think this is a great craft book and I've recommended it to many friends. The Klutz products are always clever but this one is really special. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite children's book to read aloud!
This book captures literary genius in the form of childish tongue twisters. It proves to be an excellent practice of diction and reading rhythm while providing extreme entertainment for the little listener. The love of words is the beginning of all great literary accomplishment, and this child's book is a step in the right direction.

5-0 out of 5 stars Oh, Say I Can't Say
This book was one of my husbands favorites when he was growing up, and now that we are expecting a child he wanted our son to have the same experience. He was so excited when it arrived that he read it to me as a bedtime story. The riddles start out easy, but by the end of the book your tongue is so twisted it's hard to say anything!!It's a lot of fun and we really look forward to hearing our son try to say these riddles when he learns to speak.

4-0 out of 5 stars What a fun book!
This is a really fun book to read. However, you REALLY have to pay attention to the words or you will mess them up.If you love tongue twisters, this is the book for you.It also is great for young readers, but they may become frustrated with some of the words. It's fun for little ones to listen to and to see how fast you can say these phrases. When you hear "faster, faster," well, you know you're encouraging reading in your child.A very fun book - I recommend it. ... My kids love these Mad Lib Juniors, especially because they provide a list of words to choose from in each category, thereby teaching kids about Adjectives, Nouns, Verbs, etc.

When Judy and Peter find a board game in the park, they take it home, hoping to alleviate their boredom. 4-0 out of 5 stars Jumanji Children's book
This book was in perfect condition when it arrived in New Zealand. I was particularly impressed with the service I received from Amazon and the quickness of my delivery. Thumbs Up!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Thrilling Childhood Memory
Jumanji is a great book! I am 23 years old now and I still remember the day my 2nd grade teacher read Jumanji to my class. I was hanging on her every word and the illustrations were absolutley amazing. This was in the year 1987 and up to that point I had never seen pictures so vividly and immaculately rendered. Jumanji was unlike any other book that I had read because it was fun, exciting, adventurous, and also eerie which added to the intrigue. I was very disappointed by the movie interpretation of it, because it's nothing like the real thing.

3-0 out of 5 stars Jumanji
Jumanji is an exhilarating book.Itis a fiction book and fiction books are better than nonficiton because when somebody tells you the truth it`s not fun. Another reason I liked Jumanji is because Chris Van Allsburg writes pretty good books and his pictures are breathtaking. ... Read more

Stop everything! If at least one copy of each of these classics is notin a prominent place on your bookshelf, your home and your progeny's childhoodis incomplete. Winnie-the-Pooh and his friends--blustery old Owl, bouncy Tigger, clever Christopher Robin, glum Eeyore, and the rest--have been a staple ofchildren's literature for over 70 years in A.A. 5-0 out of 5 stars Timeless Classics
Winnie the Pooh and friends will bring lots of laughter and love to any child and will bring back lots of memories of your own childhood. These books are of the original text that Miline wrote for his own son, Christopher Robin.
5-0 out of 5 stars Every Child Should Read At Least One
Every child should read at least one A.A.Milne book. They are excellent read-alouds because they are entertaining for the adult who is reading them as well as the children.
5-0 out of 5 stars I can still recite some of these poems, 40-some years later
Pooh may be the headliner, but some of the stories I remember best are those of James James Morrison Morrison Weatherby George Dupree (who took great care of his mother, though he was only three), Emmeline (who went to see the Queen), and King John (whose list for Father Christmas contained just one item, a big red India-rubber ball). Everything is written from a perspective that a child would understand, without judgment, without condescension... This is a wonderful collection. I can still see Pooh trying to get his head out of the Hunny jar, Owl going on at length about the Spotted or Herbaceous Backson, Eeyore mourning his popped balloon.Whether your kids read these books themselves, or you read to them, these books are a treasure they'll want to pass down to their kids. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Fun, Silly and Most Importantly, Engaging for Young Readers!
I think every young child whose ever accidentally released a balloon into the wild blue yonder has wondered what happens to them...and this book gives kids some whimsical ideas about the secret life of balloons that should ease their minds about what happens...I suppose this is a better way for kids to think about it than just popping somewhere up there and plummeting to the ground. The words are written in silly rhymes and the illustrations are lush and whimsical...just plain silly and loads of fun for young readers.Younger kids (2-4) will like having the opportunity to explore each page and older kids (5-8) will enjoy reading all the additional text loaded onto each page (balloons writing post cards, signs for various things, ect...) that should help keep their interest when the simple rhyme is, well, too simple for them to enjoy. Each page feels rather like an explosion of art and whimsy...it is that chaotic splendor that kids can't help but love!!Where to Balloons Go? doesn't provide any scientific explanation...but it's not meant to, it's just plain fun!! Kids and adults alike will have fun reading this and diving right into the incredible illustrations...if you've got a kid 4-8, this is a must read!!

5-0 out of 5 stars artistic, creative, clever, addictive!!
my daughter absolutely loves this book. the age range says 4 and up but my daughter is two and loves it and is addicted to it. she wants me to read it to her before her nap and bedtime. i would say not to leave it down where a child under 4 could rip the pages. this books verbage and artwork is so clever. my daughter and i both get a kick out of it. there are reusable stickers included in the back of the book and you can use them on the pretty inside covers in the front or back (slick surface- either cloud or space background). she always sees them when we are done reading and can't wait until she can one day play with them. she loves stickers but tends to rip them and ruin them at this age- so i'm waiting to let her play with these! i would recommend this book to anyone, and i know i will buying this as gifts!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for a child that has lost someone.
I don't know if this was the original message intended, but I've found this book to be a great tool for helping kids cope with loss. Whether it be a grandparent or a pet, this can open the lines of communication with a young child and help explain things that sometimes adults have difficulty putting into words. I'm a hospice nurse, and know that this book has been reccommended for children in our field for years - and it's darned cute to boot! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Our son has never been so enthralled over a book
We bought this book for our 8 yr. old son and it's the first book that we couldn't pry from his hands.I never thought I'd hear myself say, "Son, would you please stop reading.".The illustration in the book as well as all the elements are beautiful and it's just so full of interesting "things" including a bunch of stickers. The stickers are so beautiful that my son didn't want to use them so they wouldn't get messed up. He wanted to keep them perfectly preserved.Every page is a suprise. He loved this book so much that he begged us to buy Pirateology and we didn't hesitate.

The model dragon was cool and you can even hang it from the ceiling
3-0 out of 5 stars Purchase for the Dragon model
I originally bought this for my nephews, who have a fascination with dragons and such at the moment. It's definitely a result of the Harry Potter phenomenon, but the similarity ends at its "magical" quality. Its intent is the opening of minds to the hidden worlds of the imagination, and a rekindling of young peoples' interests in areas of mythology and classic literature. Supposedly the work of the last dragonmaster, the book aims to dispel the myths on dragons, recalling Hagrid's comments that they are "very misunderstood creatures". While Dragonology has lots of bells and whistles and moving parts, this is a simple guide to tracking and identifying dragons of various types, and the information within can also be found in either the first Dragonology text, or the Handbook. The Dragon model, used for identifying dragons in the wild, is quite a treat, however, and easily assembled, though I would expect it to be easier for 10+ year olds. The model itself is made from very thick, durable cardboard (almost like wood), and, for the price of less than $10, it's a decent value. While the tracking guide is great for stimulating the imagination of children (of all ages, apparently), it's a slightly more involved text than Dragonology (and on par with the Handbook, from which it was derived), and therefore also likely to appeal to children 10+. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Must for Classrooms Across America
As an elementary principal, this book was loved by students and always checked out from the library. Trevor has a wonderful grasp on bullies and helps students in a sincere, motivating way. The dvd is super if you haven't checked into owning it. It's priced well and the animation/music is highly engaging. The material is solid and right-on with what I saw as an elementary principal and in dealing with bullying issues. If you are a teacher or can arrange author visits, go to trevorromain.com and look into a school/author visit. Trevor is inspirational for students, as well as adults, and will raise the bar for school-wide expectations with his "double-dog dare!" Trevor has visited our campus twice in two years and the students can't get enough!

5-0 out of 5 stars No need to feel Helpless
No child should feel helpless when it comes to the jungle of a playground. This book encourages dialogue and an internal sense of courage. The book is very kid-friendly.The language is perfect for those grade 3-6.The format and cartoon characters make the whole book and subject very approachable for kids. Whether bullied or not, this raises awareness to help all kids help themselves.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great in the Classroom!
This book has been a valuable part of my classroom read aloud program for 3 years now.It is valuable in that it really speaks to the students on their level. It is straight-forward about the problems and realities of bullies and teasing. This book often provided a great springboard into valuable classroom discussions.Students become empowered to stick up for themselves and to understand the thought process of a typical bully.Read more
