4-0 out of 5 stars For Kids, This Book is Great!
At first my seven year-old son, a devout Captain Underpants fan, was doubtful as to whether or not to get this book. He saw the so-so ratings on Amazon and didn't think he was going to enjoy it. But upon purchasing a used version of the book, he found he loved all the activities included.
4-0 out of 5 stars Satisfied Aunt
I bought my nephew this book as his first chapter book and he absolutly loved it, he sat down and read it in one day, and he just turned six. I am not bothered by the misspelled words. After all these books are supposed to be written by 2nd graders, and at that young an age teachers should not be correcting spelling, they should be encouraging children to sound out a word, and then make an educated guess as to how it is spelled. It's about recognizing letter sounds, and letter combinations, not exact spelling. That comes later. I plan on getting the entire series for my nephew for christmas.

4-0 out of 5 stars I love CaptainUnderpants

Editorial Review

Every year, as the leaves start turning gold and the night air getschilly, children all over the world begin dreaming of the Great Pumpkin... Well,at least one faithful child does. Poor Linus. While Charlie Brown, Lucy, Snoopy, and the gang make preparations for trick-or-treating and Halloween parties, thisstalwart believer risks their ridicule to write his annual letter to themystical orange orb, in hopes that Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars IT's the Great Pumpkin,Charlie Brown
4-0 out of 5 stars Essentially the Same.
Even though this 35th Anniversary Edition is illustrated by someone else, it's essentially the same story book that appeared years ago. True, the story has been trimmed down some. But most of the elements are still there: Linus' desperate hoping, Charlie Brown's holey costume, Lucy putting her brother to bed. The illustration look almost identical to the drawings of the beloved Schulz and if it weren't for the fact that Paige Braddock's name appears on the title page, one wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Besides, this is a great Peanuts's story and one of the best Halloween stories around.

2-0 out of 5 stars Re-Drawn Book Adapted From the TV Special
I almost feel like a traitor saying anything less than praise for this book featuring the Peanuts Gang created originally by Charles M. Schulz.I, like millions of others, grew up with Charlie Brown, Lucy, Linus, Violet, Snoopy, Pig Pen, Schroeder, and Sally.Every year at Halloween I looked forward to seeing the story of sincere Linus waiting for the Great Pumpkin in the pumpkin patch. This book contains all the characters and it re-tells essentially the same story but it has been illustrated by Paige Braddock rather than Schulz and adapted by Justine and Ron Fontes and seems to have lost something in the process. The Peanuts gang always was kind of surly with each other, calling names like Blockhead, pulling footballs out from each other and laughing at one another's expense. In this story, of course, Linus is the brunt of the teasing because he has undying faith in the mythical Great Pumpkin. For years I loved watching the Charlie Brown cartoon specials, the catchy piano jazz theme and the short, big-headed kids with their flat feet and funny facial expressions.Who could help loving Snoopy as the Red Baron or little Woodstock? These cartoons have always had a decidedly adult sense of humor, sometimes rather dark humor even though children the world over have loved the cartoon kids themselves.Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Good recipes - but very inefficient.
Children love to follow instructions, step by step, and this book has an over abundance of unnecessary and inefficient steps that can make a simple recipe that would normally take 20 minutes to prep, drag on for hours. Any adult, who cooks like this doesn't cook often, cooks professionally or spends most of their waking hours in a kitchen.
5-0 out of 5 stars For Every Kid, Parent, and Grandparent You Know
I've given this book to just about every kid, parent, and grandparent in my life, all to rave reviews. My niece hoards it from her brother. One friend's son cooks dinner for the family once a week from this book.Another friend asks her grand-daughter to choose a recipe or two from the book and they spend a Saturday afternoon centering a cooking lesson around the skills learned therein. The book strikes just the right tone:friendly without being cutesy, snappy without being silly. It's a marvelous idea beautifully executed, and a great gift. Abigail Johnson Dodge hit a home run with this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Yum!

Editorial Review

When Duck gets the zany idea to ride a bike one day, each animal on thefarm has a reaction. "M-o-o-o," says Cow. But what she's really thinking is, "Aduck on a bike? That's the silliest thing I've ever seen!" Pig and Pig say"Oink," thinking all the while, "Duck is such a show-off!" But it's not until acrew of kids shows up and leaves their bikes lying about that the true feelingsof all the animals come to light, and for one brief, glorious moment, the farmis a mad, mad world of two-wheeling road hogs (and chickens and horses andgoats). 5-0 out of 5 stars Fun Read!
My two year old and four year old love this book!We checked it out of the library and were sad to have to return it. The story moves along in a very predictable way, yet has a great twist at the end. It gets read several times a week and has definitely become one of our family's new favorites!

5-0 out of 5 stars I wish I could ride a bike just like duck!
For me, any book that can be acted, as much as read aloud, is a book that I want to share with my listeners and one that I would definitely recommend to you. This book is both those things. The ingenious text invites you to mimic the farm animals and be the most spirited reader you can be. In the hands of a dedicated reader and/or a devoted parent, this title will prove an exceedingly satisfying read. The illustrations are gorgeous and can be most appreciated in the arms of a child while he/she studies them up close. The clever ending will hopefully tempt your son or daughter to say, "Uh-oh, what's he up to now?" and foster a discussion with him/her about what might happen to Duck next. This is one of the best examples of contemporary literature for young children because it so artfully combines smart writing with outstanding illustrations. Again, like so many of the books I've presented to my audiences at the Children's Museum, this is a book that should be included in your young child's library because it will undoubtedly be read over and over and enjoyed till it's worn.

5-0 out of 5 stars Delightful!
This is such a fun book for children and their Parents! The farm animals are so cute and the expression on their face is humorous! Parent's can have fun giving each character a different voice. This is an excellent book for young children! My son enjoys many of David Shannon's stories, including the David books. The David books are probably more for children past the toddler stage. My son read one of the David books in front of class and the students loved it!The David pictures are pretty funny too.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Notorious Notations
As a big Lemony Snicket fan, being thirteen, my opinion may not matter much to anyone who reads it. However, I, like Klaus Baudelaire, have read many a more books than the average man reads in a lifetime. Having the reading comprehension of an adult, I say the book was utterly Snicket, a phrase here whitch means "Nothing less than expected of this wonderful, and slightly misunderstood, author." So I shame those who have given him merely two stars!! I have, like Mr.Snicket and the Baudelaires, have done a great deal of research on him, and some do not like his books, while others find it perfect for their taste. I am one of these people, who love a good mystery WITHIN the story, not a mystery itself. So for those who dislike Mr. Snicket, go read Pride and Prejudice, and leave this book alone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Delicious when fried
There are some jokes out there that are so classic they've passed the point where they're funny anymore. Knock-knock jokes fall into this category. Light bulb jokes too. And then there's the best one of them all. Why-did-the-chicken-cross-the-road jokes. Boy oh boy you just can't make anyone laugh with one of those anymore, can you? Well that's the way my thinking would have gone had I not picked up a bizarre little picture book title by the same name. In this book fourteen different children's illustrators are each granted a two-page spread to offer their answer to this, the oldest of questions. No two answers are exactly alike and no two illustrators have styles even vaguely similar. It makes for a book that kids will adore, grown-ups will pore over, and insipient illustrators will want to keep very close at hand.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Family Favorite!
My children (ages 7 and 4) stumbled across this book at our favorite bookstore recently, and I can't say enough about the smiles and cheer it has brought them. I now plan to buy this book as a gift for every child I know (and even a few adults). Adorable black and white photos have managed to capture our animal friends in the most peculiar poses, opening wonderful dialog opportunities in our family. Even if you aren't "blue" this book will elevate the mood of anyone, any age. It's destined to be a favorite for many families.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fond memories from 2nd grade
After recess every day we would be given a page from the Anti Coloring book and allowed to draw to our hearts content for half an hour. It was one of my favorite times of the day.

5-0 out of 5 stars Two thumbs up, most definitely!!
As a parent and former early childhood educator, I am pleased to write this review. In a day and age when entertainment does not require much thought process from our young ones (i.e. video games, pointless television shows, computer software, etc.), it is very refreshing to stumble upon the Anti-Coloring Book. Our children are exposed to endless amounts of effort-free fun stuff; and ultimately, young minds become lazy, trained, and forgetful of the power of imagination. How can you say no to a product that fosters developmentally appropriate learning, and promotes self awareness, self confidence, self expression, and independent thinking?? Help your child to break free from the lines and boundaries that hold them back.Kudos to the creators... it's time to get real about our children's needs!

5-0 out of 5 stars I grew up with Anti-Coloring Books
I still remember some of the specific pages I created in my Anti-Coloring Books almost 20 years ago! I had 4 or 5 different books and loved them all. These books encourage creativity, empowering kids to draw and think "outside the lines." I look forward to giving these books to my nieces, nephews, and children in the near future and are thrilled to learn that they're still available. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars hours of fun
Like all of the I spy books, this one offers hours and hours of fun for all ages. Some of the things to be found took days to find, which can be a bit frustrating for some people.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best trip companion for a little kid
This book is as exciting for kids as it is for parents.I bought our first I Spy book for a long (17 hrs) plane flight with my 3.5 year old and it really did the job of entertaining him enough.Without it the trip could have been a nightmare.I recommend it to anyone who needs to keep a child entertained and occupied for a longer period of time.

5-0 out of 5 stars My girls loved it
My girls, 3 and 5 really like the Little Pony toys and books overall. They pick out the one story they want to hear by looking at the index in the front. They enjoy the pictures and trying to identify the pony with their name.
4-0 out of 5 stars My daughter LOVES this book!!
I purchased this book for my 4 year old daughter as a christmas present. She has asked me to read this book every night since then. She loves the colors and she adores every pony, in the opening of the book the first story is "Meet the Ponies", she has never asked me what the names of her little ponies were before this book but now she almost has most of her ponies names memorized! And she has alot of them! She also told me that she thinks that the ponies are very good friend to each other. She says that they are never mean and they always ask to help their friends. I feel that this is a very good lesson for my daughter to learn. Even though some of the stories are a little pointless you do learn one key thing and that is that friends are very special and you should try always to be a good one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun Storybook!
I am 10 yrs old and I love this story book. You'll wanna read it all day! It has 8 wonderful stories. ''Meet The Ponies'' isn't so bad, it isn't my favorite though. ''Pinkie Pie's Spooky Dream'' is very cool. Rainbow Dash, Sparklesworks, and Pinkie Pie sleep outside and Pinkie Pie has a scary dream. ''A Pony's Tale'' is so fun to read. Cotton Candy realizes that adding the other pony's ideas in the play makes it even better. ''Fun At The Fair'' is one of my very favorites, it starts when the ponies rush to the fair and Minty want a teddy bear, and keeps trying to get it and doesn't give up. ''Pony Party''is very cute. Everybody helps Pinkie Pie feel better and they make her a new costume of of some of theres. ''Wishes Do Come True!'' is fun to read. Maybe you are just supposed to make up your own story about what happens next after Skywishes wakes up. Anyway Star Catcher makes everybody's dreams come true and Skywishes discover where the pegasus's secret hideout is. ''Fashion Fun'' is really cute. Minty picks a rain outfit and keep tripping in it, so Sew-And-So gives her ''gorgeous galoshes'' so she wan't slip, tumble, and trip! The last story, ''Butterfly Hunt'', is auctally very interesting! It is also very cute. Two ponies catch butterflies and find a whole bunch of them, and then they take them for a flight over Ponyville! ... Read more
