Early 90's version- A+
I also have the early 90's version and it is great. All of the recipes are kid-friendly and family-friendly. I can whip up any of these recipes in a hurry or allow my 6 year old or 2 year old help out. I haven't seen the new version with the colors but this one has mormal font and pictures of each recipe. It is like a grown up cookbook but with the kids favorite foods!

Where did they hide the batteries to power the colors???
The classic easy-to-use and pantry-friendly Better Homes and Garden Cookbook is pretty much in every kitchen in America and chances are, it's already in yours too.If so, then then there's nothing in this obnoxiously-colored cookbook for kids that you couldn't find in either the adult BH & H cookbook or a back issue of Family Circle.With a few exceptions, (most notably the breakfast pizza and the Hula Stir Fry) it's all extremly standard fare.The only thing that sets it apart is the crazy fonts and colors so obnoxious that I had to wait ten minutes between reading it and writing this review so I could see straight again.I mean, are you really in need of another chicken nugget recipe?Isn't there anything more interesting they could come up with?And it isn't written to make the cooking any easier for kids--they might as well grab your adult copy and save their vision.

Very Cute & Useful Book
I got this for my son's 7th birthday (he loves to cook!) and this book is so handy!What I love about it is that the kids can have fun measuring and adding the ingredients to make their own desserts.I recommend this over the expensive easy bake packages any day!

This book should arrive with your Easy Bake Oven
After purchasing my first mix for my son's Easy Bake Oven, I knew there had to be a better, and less expensive, way.This book has some excellent recipes in it - things I am happy to make and eat with my son.The half-dozen we have tried so far have been consistently good.Further, it allows my son to actually cook, instead of just adding water.I have to help a little more with things, since there are more ingredients and more steps, but the results are satisfying for both of us.And best of all - the desserts and snacks are portion controlled.

Big results for small people
This is the best cookbook I know for pre-K kids. The recipes are simple and clearly illustrated, but they're real food - lots of the dishes here would be welcome at any dinner table. If you want to build your child's self esteem, respect and genuine achievement are the best way to do it. This book respects the child's intelligence, and offers the achievement of making a real contribution to the family's meal. Your child will need some help with this book, but you may be surprised at just how little.

Nice Rhythm Nice Change
My one year old grandson enjoys the pictures in this book and the rhythm of the words.It is nice for me to have a book to read to him that isn't about warm fuzzy animals.

SushiLoving Toddler!
My daughter received this book and 2 others (Yum Yum Dim Sum, and Hola Jalapeno) as a gift when she was born. In the last 3 years we have grabbed these books over and over again at bedtime, to go out for dinner, overnight trips... all the time! She recognizes the pieces of sushi she just had for dinner and LOVES to read the book to herself (from memory... of course). The illustrations are vivid and fun to look at and the rhyming words are like lyrics to her ("Someday I'll Eat With Chopsticks, But Today Just With My Hands")! Great Sugar Cookies!
I have the original 1957 book which is falling apart because of use when I was a child.I recently purchased two Betty Crocker's Cookbook for Boys and Girls to give as gifts for two young women who were looking for a great sugar cookie recipe to make with their children.The one in this cookbook is the best!!In fact I used it so much growing up I gave the recipe to my grandmother who continued to bake these cookies and send them to me when I was in college.With so many complicated and fancy recipes out there today, it was great to see this book still in print.A must have for families with young children!

Wonderful cookbook with good memories!
This is the first cookbook I ever received. It was a gift from my parents when I was a child. I enjoyed making the recipes then and I still enjoy them. Imagine my delight at being able to get another copy of this great book! Among my favorite recipes: sugar cookies, oatmeal cookies, the hot fudge pudding, apple crisp, meatloaf, the pink lemonade, cheese dreams, and tuna burgers. The sugar cookie recipe is the best one I have ever found! This is a terrific gift for all ages.

Very relevant for more than teens!!

Emril's books
This is the second Emril's kids cookbook Ihave purchased for my grandson.He loved the first ("There's a Chef in my Soup"), and requested this one for his birthday.He was really excited to get it. I tried a couple of receipes, and they were great!!!

Looking to Get the Kids Involved? This is the book!
I am not the biggest fan of the Everything books:I have found their text to be over-simplified.However, here, it plays in their flavor tremendously.Like the fantastic Mom and Me Cookbook byAnnabel Karmel, (which I can't recommend enough if you are looking to cook cutesy-crafty items with your kids, especially younger ones) this book gives illustrated utensils needs (like if it needs an oven to make, then there's a little picture of an oven at the top of the recipe) and starts with a glossary of cooking terms and safety guidelines.It's got a great little guide for how to set a table, and is full of puzzles for the older kids to do and tips about any number of things that have to do with the meal.It also includes a difficulty level which is terribly handy when you're cooking with younger children or children spaced far apart (like mine).It also has a very handy conversion chart (you know, how many cups in a gallon sort of thing) that for me, is worth the purchase price alone.

I borrowed this book from the library not so much so my daughter could cook; she's 17 months, but more for me so I could find some good things to make her; I'm not much of a cook.I really like the recipes that were in the book so I returned it to the library and plan on purchasing this book real soon!

Good recipes - but very inefficient.
Children love to follow instructions, step by step, and this book has an over abundance of unnecessary and inefficient steps that can make a simple recipe that would normally take 20 minutes to prep, drag on for hours. Any adult, who cooks like this doesn't cook often, cooks professionally or spends most of their waking hours in a kitchen.
For Every Kid, Parent, and Grandparent You Know
I've given this book to just about every kid, parent, and grandparent in my life, all to rave reviews.My niece hoards it from her brother.One friend's son cooks dinner for the family once a week from this book.Another friend asks her grand-daughter to choose a recipe or two from the book and they spend a Saturday afternoon centering a cooking lesson around the skills learned therein.The book strikes just the right tone:friendly without being cutesy, snappy without being silly.It's a marvelous idea beautifully executed, and a great gift. I love LH books but...
I love LH books and read them before there was a TV show- I remember how at age 10 I enjoyed reading about Laura and Mary in the Big woods and how facinating it was to read about playing in the attic among all the food and goods the family had in storage. Laura Ingalls Wilder was so decriptive about the foods and acitivities of her childhood that it made you hungry for what they were about to eat and you felt a part of what was going on.
Not just a cookbook
The Little House cookbook is more than a collection of recipes.It's full of historical food tidbits.Each recipe if prefaced with an exerpt from the Little House book where that food is mentioned.This feature lets you know you are recreating a dish that Laura described in her book.Since Ma did not write down her recipes, Barbara Walker had to do research to find similar recipes to those described in the Little House series.But because of the explainations regarding the new recipes, there is no suspicion of unauthentic foods. Plus, they taste great.The white bread is a family favorite.This is 100% recommended for Little House fans and those wanting to explore frontier foods.

Adorable Pics, but Slightly Too Elaborate
Excellent cupcake recipes if you bake the simple options, however some of them are SO inventive, I've not heard of many of the ingredients!I'd consider myself somewhat of a novice and perhaps that's why.

Hidden message
"The Gingerbread Man" is a great story for young children. However this story also has many hidden themes that your child might pickup on while reading this tale. Wonderful version of the classic tale
Lovely illustrations and repeating, predictable text. The illustrations are "old fashioned" looking and were drawn in ink then colored with watercolors and gouache. A classic tale about a gingerbread cookie man that gets up and runs away when he is released from the oven and leads many on a long chase. My children want me to read this story over and over again! KOSHER BY DESIGN: KIDS IN THE KITCHEN
This is a wonderful new cookbook for kids. The good people at Mesorah Publications have spared no expense creating an accessible and appealing cookbook that is full of fun for both children and adults. The brightly colored design and jump-off-the-page graphics will surely grab any reader.Here's an example of instructions from page 9 (colored green and pink) on how to keep your kitchen kosher: "Be a Kosher label detective...Meat and dairy never mix...Yuk! A Pleasant Surprise!
I reluctantly bought this for a daughter who loves Redwall books andcooking. The first pleasant surprise came upon opening the book and seeing how visually pleasing it is. It's lovely! The next came when our daughter starting working her way through the book, with the goal of making each recipe. She's about half-way through and each one thus far has been delicious; something our whole family enjoyed. Most cookbooks yield a handful of recipes that are keepers but The Redwall Cookbook is amazingly, consistently good. This is a purchase I'm glad I made.

Kids cookbook with a story
This paperback book has beautiful illustrations. The table of contents is divided into months which is a great idea. Kids will love the names of the dishes. They are easy to make and taste good too. They all follow the story line.
